ComSwitch 5500 does not do anything else than re-directing the call signal to the right device. Unless it is faulty, ComSwitch 5500 will not change the format or content of the signal transmitted to the other device. If the comswitch clicks, then send the fax to Lanier 4150 and this start printing, then the problem is with the Lanier 4150, or with cables, or with connection to the switch.
Try the Lanier 4150 as standalone fax. Once you verify that the Fax is ok, check the phone canles you are using , particularly the one going from the switch to the fax.
And finally, VERY IMPORTANT : ensure that you connect the fax to the To the FAX/MODEM port and not PHONE or TAD port, check it out.

The 5500 fax/modem Port transfer Code is the channel identificative for your port, this has nothing to do with 5500 Programming Codes posted by other experts. Port 11 as transfer code should be accepted by any phone, modem, or fax machine connected. If you change any other setting by mistake you can restore all using again programming code 999 Reset to Factory Settings. Port transfer Code it is not a frequency standard or an encryption code etc. it will not change the signal transmitted on fax/modem port. And if the switch clicks and send signal to fax the port it is opening.
If you fax does not work it is not because you are using port code 11, as this it is just the channel the switch is using to direct signal to fax. You change this value only when you want to customize your switch to do different things. For example directing local faxes to port 11 and long distance one to port 21.
If your fax print a blank paper:
Firsd do a reset using code 999, ensure that it worked checking that values went back to factory default.
Ensure first that you are using your Fax connected to fax/modem Port.
Ensure that cable to fax it is right kind and it is working by replacing it at least once.
If you did all the above, and ensured that fax is fine then probably the ComSwitch 5500 is defective. Get a replacecemen or bring it to a service centre.
Check carefully that is not the rj11 phone cable going from switch to fax.. Connect fax machine straight to phone socket using same cable. some cable can still work for phone calls and not with Faxes.

Thanks Ginko, When the incomming line is connected directly to the 4150 the fax machine works fine. The symptoms that I described occur only when the signal is routed through the 5500. This would lead you to condlude that there is something wrong with the 5500. Except that there are 10,000 diferent FAX/MODEM transfer codes. The factory default is 11 could it be that the factory default code is not appropriate for the 4150? The 5500 works fine with the phone and the answering machine
TIA,
Peter Moseley
Thanks eagle338, The codes are very helpful.
Thanks early1234, I have the list of codes but I don't see how to set the 5500 to HOME mode.
Thanks Micromaster, The fax machine works properly when connected directly to the phone line.
