I'm trying to find out the battery hookup for a Merits S549 Scooter; had to replace the batteries and want to make sure I hooked them up correctly

there should be two sets of cables, 1 set per battery, do not put one cable on one battery and one on another. Black is - and Red is +. the each cable plugs into its connector into the scooter system.

SHELBY ANTRIM'S MERITS MOBILITY SCOOTER HAS AN ELECTRIC SHORT SOMEWHERE BUT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS THE LIGHTS THE TURN SIGNALS AND THE HORN AND IT HAS NEW BATTERIES

turn the speed up some, unplug Charger, put brake lever in drive mode - hard to push, restart with the key. make sure no damage has happened to the wiring harness that connects to the back. Circuit break may need to be pushed in. this is a start. Next thing would be the Throttle and speed pot.

I can leave it plugged in for 24 hours and not have a full charge. Is this the batteries or the on board charger

There are a few things to consider with this type of problem.

How old are the batteries. When did you last have them tested. Is the charger output ok on load (test with an amp clamp type meter). is the charger the correct one for these batteries, small output chargers take longer to charge big batteries. Are all connection tight on batteries and anything to do with the charging circuit. Plug and socket type connection do fail on poor connections. Check voltage on batteries when on charge and off charge to see if the charger voltage is getting through to the batteries.

How do I know if my scooter is full charge

The charger will cut out when the batteries are fully charge. Look for the green led on the charger.

My pride mobility victory scooter will not charge

You must charge each battery individually with an automotive NON automatic style battery charger until each battery has at least 10 bolts each. The scooter charger cannot pull up a battery with less than 10 volts.
