Quit staying cold

We bought ours used it's probably 15 years old it worked great for the last 6 months. The fan runs and when you adjust the dial you can hear it go off but it isn't as cold as it shoud be the stuff on the bottom two shelves defrosted But the top two are still frozen. I M not sure if it's the compressor or what since the top two shelves are frozen and have A little frost on them but the bottom is thawed . Also is there a problem with putting a tv on top of the freezer is the weight on top bad for it? Thanks

1972 montgomery ward chest freezer

Does the freezer get cold? Any cooling? There could be a number of things. Biggest problem is this machine is not worth fixing. The amount of energy it uses monthly is probably 1.5 times what a new one uses in a whole year. Technology has changed greatly in the last 42 years. Recycle your old one. Some utilities, like the one in my area, will pay you to replace it!!

Freezer has quit freezing only a little over a year old. manufactor date 6/2009 compressor is running will only cool down to 50 degrees thermostat set on coldest.

Is the compressor continually running? If so then there could be a leak in the system or the compressor is damaged. If it's running then stopping, the cold control (thermostat) could be damaged.

Freezer begun tripping our 20 amp breaker for some reason

ok hi there i viewed the specs for this freezer
http://www.truemfg.com/catalog/servlet/com.apsiva.servlet.HomeServlet
this unit must be plugged into a 120v outlet with a 15amp circuit breaker dedicated (nothing else should on this circuit) so all by itself. you have to check the voltage outlet where you plug in. you must have at least 115v or better (125v the most) if you have less then 115v it will cause damage. ok you went and checked all this out and everything is 15amp with 115v or better and it still trips breaker.
ok the running amps is 6.8 amps so to blow the circuit you need 15 amp which is too high.
i suggest you call a refrigeration guy because he will be able to determine if the problem is the compressor (which has a 4 year warranty with truemfg.com only in the USA) or something else. Usually but not 100% what would make a freezer like yours to blow the fuse is the compressor. if it overheats it will do this, if there is a sudden high pressure within the system it will do it, if you have a condenser fan that is not running at proper speed it will do this...
the problem cannot be pin pointed understand please... you have to babysit it, watch for changes in the refrigeration system and the running compressor amps, voltage drops ( this will cause high amps) etc...
Refrigeration is not easy and alot of tech stay away... so those who stick it out make money cause you have 2 choices: buy another one and pay big bucks to get it fixed. at least see if you can find someone to come over (for like $40 - $60) and tell you exactly whats wrong with it... whew... hope this was helpful and not confusing...sorry

My freezer is about 2 years old, but has been in storage for about a year and a half. The green light comes on, and the motor is running, but it will not get cold or even cool.

Hi ndntwiggy,
Ngafm at your service

Your said, your freezer is about 2 years old, but has been in storage for about a year and a half.
And the green light comes on, and the motor is running, but it will not get cold or even cool.

When a compressor is not run for more than a year, or 2 years there is a possibility that the seals dried out from non use and the freon leaked out.
Compressors have oil in them that when run even once a month will lubricate the seals and keep them soft and moist! .
Just like in the older cars from the 1960's or 70's the air conditioners had to be run once a month even in the winter to keep the seals lubricated or they lost the freon!
Then they started to make the defroster turn the compressor on as to lubricate the seals every time it rained or snowed and you needed the defrosters and this serviced the compressor as in todays cars.!
So you need service to fix it and more than likely it's out of freon refrigerant .
Let me know your end results.
