Steering wheel is 'locked' - move it left or right while trying the key. Or make sure the gear selector is fully in Park, if an Automatic.

Hello, This is a fairly common problem for Mercedes. You can try to lubricate the switch with a graphite powder for locks that you can find in almost any auto parts store. Spray the powder into the lock cylinder and work the key in and out of the switch, then try to turn. Do Not Use Any Sprays Like WD-40 etc. If this does not work, order a new key from Mercedes, and try again. If you do get it turn, make sure that you can get the car to someone to remove the lock cylinder because it will do it again! If you can't get it to turn, you will need to take it to someone that knows these cars for repair. It is an expensive repair and you don't want just anybody to do the job.
I hope this helped.

SOURCE: replacing the battery in a 2001 mercedes benz

Battery base has a device that clamps the battery on a step/notch on the side. Use a ratchet with an extension to loosen. Once it is loose you can remove the battery.

My 2000 S500 mercedes will not start. the key turns but the engine will not crank. it has a new battery

Does it click or do anything? If not, then the plastic gears inside the ignition that control the vehicles ACC and ON positions along with the cranking may have slipped. Have someone to pull the ignition switch panel and check and make sure the "gears" are working properly.

1998 s500 mercedes benz trunk will not open

Try the fuse first. If you have done this than the problem could be in the actuator on the trunk latch. Poss loose/bad wire or faulty unit? I hope this helps!

I put my key in the ignition, and nothing happens at all. The key does not turn even a fraction. I have a 2001 C320 Mercedes

There's a good chance the key is worn or the ignition lock. If you don't have another key you can order one through a Merc dealer via the chassis number.
