Engine reving itself in park, won,t always start, and dying at stops
May need new spark plugs and wires and if that dosent fix it try changing your fuel filter.
Testimonial: "replaced fuel pump and filter..still has problem, doing plugs next... could it be some thing else? like a sensor or somthing?"
yes, i had an idle problem that took me awhile to find..it was the little rubber tube that goes to the MAP sensor. I saw that it had a crack in it close to the sensor so i just cut off the bad portion and stuck it back on and it worked fine. but if you havent changed out your plugs in a long time and they're easy to get out, i would still change them out. and maybe you should have a look at all those little rubber vacuum lines... you never know, when i found that line cracked i also found the tube going to the egr valve cracked as well so i had to repair that. And one last possibility that i found out on my car doing exactly the same thing as yours ended up being the ecm computer..i finally found it under the passenger side kick plate took out the glove box pulled the battery wire off, then pulled off all the connections, i found one really corroded and dirty, all the rest were good, so i reaseated them again put battery cable back on and it ran a lot better than it did. after you do this it will take a while for the computer to relearn all the sensor settings..it might take a couple days of regular driving. good luck!
i found out something else that never dawned on me...i found it out today in my car it was idling improperly and almost would stall, it ended up being an extremely dirty IAC (idle air sensor), and since that was so dirty, i assumed that the whole throttle body must be dirty also... so i was right, it took fifteen minutes! and and almost a full can of Gummout Carb cleaner to clean it, i mean it was embarrassing how dirty it was, it was pouring out a large constant never ending stream of varnish, i had to stop, i was getting tired, and i said, i"ll clean it out again so other time...now because i used that much, i waited about an hour before trying to start it to let it evaporate and it still had a little trouble starting right away.. but i fired up... and it idles like a brand new car now.i used to maintain this car but gave it to my daughter and im giving it a tune up...was getting misfire, rough idle, loping surging you name it..
