HP a1050y/windows xp professional...would not pwr up, then I tested pwr. supply, CPU/motherboard, pwr. switch...all is fine and within spec. I jumped two pins to manually reset it, and worked, yeah. 2 weeks later, same thing...only this time when i got it started...the network adapter drivers, the audio drivers, and the modem drivers are gone...not displayed in device manager. There are no discs that came with it. I did a recovery and brought the computer back to factory state...but still no network or modem drivers. Yes to the audio driver...which won't install itself. Any ideas??

Should like to know what procedures you used to test your Power Supply, Processor/Motherboard, Power On switch, etc. A) What voltages did you get on the power cables? B) What test did you do with the CPU/Mobo? Electrolytic Capacitors good? C) How did you test the Pwr On switch? The two pins you 'reset'. Pwr On switch pins?

On these machines there is a hidden partition on the drive that holds recovery supplies. It sound like you have dead motherboard battery. the http://www.hp.com website has all the software for free download. Just tell the site what model computer you have.

Red light is flashing when cpu is switched on hp pantium4 windows xp

Test your PSU power supply unit or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle of restarting or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive power and data cables IDE SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your dvd\cd floppy drives have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

computers need power and data to travel through every working device to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

even something as small as a faulty electrical or fan lead can cause you problems

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

check you CPU central processing unit make sure its securely seated and has thermal paste it might be getting to hot the thermal paste will help disperse the heat

Thermal compound is a sticky paste that is placed directly onto the CPU.

Allowing for a more direct heat transfer between the CPU and HEAT SINK and preventing air gaps from forming between the CPU and heat sink.

hope this helps

Computer heats up fast

Heat is always a problem on PC of any kinds not serviced
ever clean it? of all that lint?
no OS stated,l 32bit OS will only do about 3.5GB, max.
on most cheaper PC that the GPU chip steals main ram to run.
all CPU made lower speed hot, inside the CPU CHIP
that is Intel magic inside doing that. deep where you cant go.
only cure is a good clean heatsink, good thermal bond compound
and good fan and a cas fan that runs. and works
the PSU has fan if it dies, how can the PSU keep cool
and the main chassis breath, unless it too has fan.
mine as I type has 4 fans
CPU
GPU
PSU
case.
all work and the case inside never ever overheats.
ever run a program to see CPU heat, ? it tell you its temperature.
do so and you see, omg it is too hot its like 90C.
this is the magic temp that the Intel inside kicks it and keeps CPU from burning itself up (they all do that since first Pentiums made to now)

that motherboard many not allow 4GB.
id have to look up the number stamped on it to be sure
this PC is old most are now scrapped. this old.
id scrape it and get a 64bit 2007 or newer PC with windows 7
there, or newer. I would, so it has value and a future.
HP has zero support on things this old. zip

again no OS stATED, BY you, how in the world can we guess that? and matters.
the old data sheet said 3GB max

https://www.cnet.com/products/hp-pavilion-a1050y/specs/

snopping about it says , Asus made it for HP under contract.
ASUS PTGD-LA
deep scans inside Hp finds this gem
4GB max, (and says less)
the fact is fining memory in 2016 for 12 year old mobo
and making its BIOS happy and that old Pentium 4.
is no fun at all, hard, and expensive.
Id up grade the PC before dumping cash on the wrothless
Pentiums are in the crush and recycle bin at Goodwill stores..

Will not power up and hear a highpitched (low volume) whistling, like old tube type tv's & radios, when disconnnecting pwr supply(tested good) from MB

Good day,

This is just an overview (for me of your problem). Try testing all hardware devices inserted inside your CPU case and check if it has any static current within it. Also check for the internal speaker and check if its wire is not grounded.

If you have any questions regarding this overview feel free to ask any of us.

Thank you and have a great day.

HP a1050y....Push the button to turn it on, and

You might have a bad power supply, or something might have loosened inside the case. sometimes if the memory or processor get jarred , they might need to be reseated. unplug all the cables from the back of the tower, only leave the power cord in then try to power up. Sounds like it might be power supply or Maybee the motherboard. Have a computer tech check all the inside connections. Good luck..

My HP Pavilion a1050y won't boot up.

So you've checked the supply, but you didn't replace it, right? Sounds to me like that's your culprit. It's not able to supply the current to run the processor (the biggest draw) and the output is dropping too low to run the system. A new supply should get you running again.

I WANT TO INSTAL WINDOWS7 ON MY HP PAVILION 061 WITH PROCESSOR 2.8GH. I WANT THE SPECS FOR IT

If your current system is still running Windows XP:
Click Start
Right-mouse click on "My Computer".
Click Properties.
The current CPU-type, CPU-speed, and amount of RAM will be displayed.
Click the Hardware Tab.
Click Device Manager, to see the full list of installed hardware.

Emachine W2047 No BIOS Start Screen

You can test the power button. Remove the wires from the power on pins on the motherboard. Momentarily jump the two pins with a small screwdriver. If the computer starts the power button is bad. If it still doesn't start then something else is wrong. Did you test the memory? Also do all of the fans work, especially the CPU fan? It can't hurt to test with the other PSU. You know the HDD is good. Test one piece of hardware at a time and hopefully you will find the problem.

Presario will not start

Hi, remove the left side of your case, turn on power and see if you can see a red or green led light on the board, if its not showing then your power supply is faulty. If the light is on then with the power off check the RAM chips are tight. if that does'nt work Then trace the cables from the front of the case, locate which is the pwr switch and unplug that, turn the poweron and then use a small screw driver and bridge the pins of the pwr switch. If this does not work you have either a dead CPU or a dead motherboard. Regards mistyman
