Technika fm/digital dab radio
when i switch on the blue screen lights up and there is a very loud buzzing noise, can't turn it down or off because none of the controls buttons don't work. i can only use mains switch to turn of/on
When you get a buzz in the unit after several years of being powered up it is a capacitor in the power supply drying out. replace the capacitors in the power supply area on the main pcb board and the buzz and low volume issue will be corrected. I have done it a couple of times. When you get a buzz in the unit after several years of being powered up it is a capacitor in the power supply drying out. replace the capacitors in the power supply area on the main pcb board and the buzz and low volume issue will be corrected. In my experience the JVC brand hasn't maintained it's early promise of quality and I avoid the brand these days.
It would have been helpful if you described the noise and mentioned whether it was constant on both FM and AM. Excessive noise isn't unusual on AM due to the inability of the basic circuitry to reject the various sources of interference found in the average home, partly because the AM ferrite rod antenna is usually inside the radio. The average AM radio is highly receptive to receiving and amplifying lots of interference from many sources especially that radiated by fluorescent lighting, cfl bulbs and even nearby mains wiring resulting in a loud hum or buzz.
With the high popularity of FM and the introduction of DAB that has increasing popularity, the development of AM receivers ceased several decades ago.
FM is immune from that type of interference but is by no means able to reject all interference and a powerful signal from an external antenna produces the best result, the best signal to noise ratio.
Assuming the radio isn't faulty, the problem is most likely interference. If the power cord has a ground conductor it is very important it is connected to a good electrically quiet ground. If this isn't possible it could improve things to use an independent ground to the outer conductor of the coax cable to the FM antenna.
Constant usage of DAB should not cause it any damage ever. The dropouts are very characteristic of a poor signal reaching the DAB tuner, as digital is either there, or not there, nothing in between.
Check the aerial connection if any, the rod antenna if any, and try moving the antenna (whatever it is) to a better location, usually higher up, away from thick walls, and away from speakers if any.
This depends on the Music System. Check the manual, check in settings and see if there is volume normalizer or try keeping the eualizer in defult, or reset the system.
I had the same problem and was able to repair it quite easily. Only thing needed is some basic soldering skills.
Problem description:
Suddenly a quite loud and disturbing (scratch/screech/buzz) noise appears.
Sometimes the noise is gone but it reappears sooner or later.
Changing volume or radio band / input (am, fm, aux) does not affect the noise (even on volume turned down all the way).
The signal coming out of the Headphones / Rec Out plug is not affected.
Cause:
Cold solder joints
Solution:
Unplug from mains
Remove back panel (the two black screws next to the plugs in the
center). The back panel sticks quite firmly, so it might help to remove
the front panel first (the 4 screws in the corners) and carefully press
out the back panel from the inside. (The other two (silver) screws are
used to attach the transformer to the back panel) and need not to be
loosened.)
On the circuit board at the back panel locate the plug that goes to
the speaker (is says "J2"). Check the solder joints. In my case, looking closely, I could see that they're not good anymore.
Renew the joints by heating them up and applying some fresh soldering
tin. I also renewd the joint from the wire bridge next to the plug. Just
check the other solder joints on the board.
In my case afterwards the problem was gone and the device is working properly again.
I assume this is on AM as FM would typically not do this.
You have a noise generator interfering someplace. I suggest you use a battery operated radio and tune to the buzzing.
Then turn off your main breaker to your house. If the buzzing remains, the problem is external to your house. It MIGHT be a bad insulator on a power pole. See if your electric company will investigate this.
IF the noise totally went away when you killed the power to your house, turn off ALL the breakers then turn on the main and one by one turn the brealers on till the buzzing returns. When it does, analyze what is on that breaker.
Some common in house sources: Bad door bell transformer, ionizer or electrostaic air cleaner, flourescent lights and CFL bulbs, Bad connections in wiring (very dangerous), switching power supplies and "wall wart" adapters to name a few.
I HAS SAME PROBLEM BUT FOUND THE ANSWER.
PRESS STANDBY AND TURN UNIT ON, THEN PRESS ALARM BUTTON, DISPLAY SHOWS ALARM 1, PRESS SELECT BUTTON DISPLAY SHOWS FM/DAB/BUZZ, PRESS LEFT/RIGHT BUTTONS TO SWITCH BETWEEN WAKE UP OPTIONS, THEN PRESS SELECT AGAIN, DISPLAY SHOWS OFF, PRESS LEFT/RIGHT BUTTON TO TOGGLE BETWEEN ON/OFF LEAVE 'ON' SHOWING, PRESS SELECT AGAIN DISPLAY WILL SHOW ALARM TIME, USE LEFT/RIGHT TO SET HOUR THEN PRERSS SELECT, USE LEFT/RIGHT TO SET MINUTES TEHM PRESS SELECT AGAIN, DISPLAY WILL NOW SHOW SMALL ALARM CLOCK IN DISPLAY WINDOW, THIS MEANS ALARM IS NOW SET.
Hello All,
I have an Alba PD2 DAB radio and have set the alarm to come on with the radio. The problem is it comes on at a very loud level. Is there a way to set it at a lower level ??
