San1923, Battery should have laser mark or HOT stamp of date of manufacture on top or side of battery. May be just a four digit code stating year and week of manufacture. e.g. 7647 = 1976 week 47 or 0422 = 2004 week 22. 12fixlouie

I have two Garrison smoke detectors dated 2008 Jul 23. Is this the expiry date, or date of manufacture? I need to know if they are garbage or good for another year.

It depends. There should be some indication near the date in question whether it is a manufacture date or expiration date. Also many smoke detectors give an indication that they are expired, like a pattern of light pulses or a pattern of audible beeps. If the batteries are replaceable, i.e. 9 Volt, try fresh batteries and check what happens.

What year is my scooter?

Consider who would have to know that date: the manufacturer, the dealer, printer of the user manual, sometimes battery manufacturers. Collect brand, model, any serial number on the scooter. Find the user manual. Try customer service. A dealer might know whenthat model was sold. Possibly the scooter's battery has a serial number and manufacturer. Car batteries have a date code. So do some other batteries. That is another possible route to check.

2005 Mozda. Tribune. I put a new battery on it, drove it 150 miles, the gauge flicked, the car stalled and would not start. What would be the problems:

Have the battery tested. Even though the battery is "new" it may have been out dated, could have sat on a concrete floor wish drains the battery, could have a bad cell and so on.
Retailers should check dates on batteries and remove and replace once they are 6 months old. Unfortunately some places just don't do it or they do but some get missed.
If you look on the battery, depending on brand, they generally have 2 stickers on the side one is manufacture date and one is shipped date. If the shipped date is more than 6 months old the battery may not be fully charged.
I hope this helps.

Batterie

Your internal CMOS battery(button battery) needs to be replaced. That keeps your date & time always working. Therefore when your main Battery runs out and external power is not present the date and time goes back to the date of manufacture.....sodeep
