SafteyDrill stopped. What do the errors mean?

I have a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 500GB external HD. I started a started a SafteyDrill on my laptop (Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2). It was about 60% complete when it stopped. What do the errors I received mean?

im not up to speed with this type of error or what its associated with

if you want to know what this is the error code is related to

click start control panel administrative tools computer management then select event viewer this may vary depending on what operating system you have

extend the events there you will see errors in red you will no what exactly what the error was and at what time it occured

you might be able work your way through the problem

Connected 20V laptop power supply to 1touch4 by accident. Now with its own 12v pwr supply connected, it just flashes and HD does not spin up. Pulled it apart and nothing obviously fried. Any suggestions?

The electronics has been damaged and the cost of repair may be high even if you can find an electronic repairer.
I suggest you put your money towards a new USB hard drive as 1Tb hard drives are less than $100.

I have a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 500GB external harddrive...I originally used it on a really old dell desktop computer but since then recieved an HP pavilion laptop...the laptop has windows vista. At one...

1.) Right click My Computer
2.) Click on Manage
3.) Click on Disk Management at the left side panel of Computer Management
4.) Right Click on the USB device in the Disk Management panel
5.) Click on Change Drive Letter
6.) Assign an Alphabet from E-Z to the USB device
7.) Click Ok

Go to My Computer and find the drive letter that you have assigned.

Have you tried it in different outlets? Is it also connected to your computer via the USB cable while it is plugged in?

Hi there,
You can try installing the drivers for the hard disk. Usually XP and vista operating systems detect the drives and install the drivers by themselves. But sometimes there are compatibility issues, which then require manual installation of drivers. I wonder what the operating system on your computer is. I'm getting "Internal Error 8211" in my Onetouch 4. Why is that?
