I recently changed from Verizon (analog) phone service to Comcast (digital) phone and TV service, and my fax machine, referenced above, will not receive faxes. I have no problems sending out faxes, but when faxes are sent to me, the machine responds like a regular phone call and switches to the voice mail after the designated number of rings, thus canceling the incoming faxes. Is this solvable through menu changes of some sort? Thank you.
I get calls all the time about fax issues. I work for Comcast and have guided people to the right answers about third party devices. We use a digital connection. Analog is a dying medium. Most calls are concerning HP and Brother but I know others fax machines have had problems too. The new HP machines have a digital setting. HP is aware of digital issues and can help you. It is unfortunate that old fax machines are not digital but a new fax is inexpensive if you wish to buy one. Analog takes up too much space. An example: Six digital television channels can fit in the same space (bandwidth) as one analog. That is why the FCC mandated the change. The same goes for phone lines. I Google almost every problem concerning fax machines and if you go past all the upset comments you will get to the comments that offer remedy. I also wanted everyone to know that a second, no frills fax line from Comcast is very inexpensive and our way of offering a dedicated fax line intead of a distinctive ring fax option.
You should probably contact comcast and see what they can offer you about solving this problem.
If you have any more issue with this particular model, you should probably check out this cool users manual. It really helped me with my model, I think it will be useful to you, too. Good luck! :)
I can't get faxes to go through. I dial the number and get a fast busy. I know the number is not busy as I can reach it on my regular line. This is a problem with both domestic and international calls. HELP!
I work for comcast and the main problem with receiving fax's is, you have to have the voicmail through comcast set to 5 rings to pick up, and the fax maching must be set to 2 ring counts, with Brother fax machines this should fix the problem, with any other fax sometimes you have to also change the setting from anolog to digital. Always check with manual to make sure fax machine is digital compatible.
You have to logon online; https://digitalvoice.comcast.net there is a special website that you can change voice mail settings. One setting is the number of rings before voice mail picks up. The default is 4 rings. Just increase it so it is longer so that the fax machine can answer. Also you can call Comcast a deactivate voicemail alltogether if you aren't using it.
Tryit: Comcast's digital phone modem box nicely provides these "signals". Loop voltage, dial tone, ring voltage etc. It's all there. After all, the phones in your house are still analog and they must work. Sometimes some people complain it doesn't work but I think IMHO these issues may be more to do with something else like high network congestion on the local Comcast network because I can tell you that Comcast phone lines are as good as a telco analog lines when it's working properly.
I want to point out that even traditional analog lines are still digitized at the telco. It may be 2000 or 3000 feet or so of wire from your house to the big phone box down town to where it gets digitized. Wheras it may be 50 feet or less of wireing in your house before the comcast box digitizes it. In a way modems and faxes should work better due to the short cabling run.
Comcast advertising "digital" phone lines is somewhat misleading since the PTSN network has been digitized for years. You know, those adverts with people on the phone "I'm calling you because it's digital...... It's digital.." Perhaps they should have a telco tech showing the contents of the big phone box down the street as a competing advert. Yup it's all digital. Just a little information Comcast doesn't want you to know.

No not usually. The digital lines do not have sufficent voltage or current to enable a receiving fax.
The incomming line must have specific line voltage, line current and power to enable receive.
When you send a fax, you physically make a connection to the phone line and get the dial tone. You make the connection to the phone line and can send your information.
The reason you can't receive is that it is like a remote control. and the right signal has to be present to activate the fax to receive.
Think of it like a TV remote controle. When the batteries get old, you press and press the buttons but nothing happens. Just not enough signal to turn the tv on or off. Have the right batteries, voltage and current and it works. Have the wrong batteries or wrong frequency programed into it. It doesn't work. I am not sure but contact comcast and see what they offer for that situation. The majority of fax machines still require an analogue line to function.
Even like changing a computer from dial up to digital internet connection, you don't use the modem anymore you use a USB or ethernet connection. Same thing.

Hi I have Comcast digital phone, TV and high speed internet. My Fax machine (Sharp UX-305) is elderly and the manual says: .."not compatible with digital telephone service" I can neither send or recieve faxes. Can anyone tell me what fax machines are compatible with the Comcast digital telephone service? Thank you
