TRANSFERRING PHOTOS TO COMPUTER If your photos are stored on the memory card, then removethe memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader.Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of yourworking computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device oran external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card andcopy the photos to your computer.Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. Youcan copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off yourmemory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing anyprograms.
buy a USB card reader that fits your camera's Card and use that instead to download your pictures. There are Multicard readers Available or ones that accept your card and plug right into USB.
You must have been supplied the necessary software along with the camera. You need to install the soft ware before your pc can recognize that u have connected this camera. Did u install the software?
Most if not all digital cameras would be read as an "external mass storage device". Based on your description, it is possible that it is the USB port of the PC that has an issue and not the camera. A couple of things that you can try:
verify that the PC's USB ports work by plugging in other USB devices such as a printer, flashdrive, MP3 player;
try the Vivitar in another PC;
double click on "My Computer". The camera would show as another drive, perhaps an "E";
rollback your USB drivers;
uninstall latest Microsoft updates (USB);
update your USB drivers not with Microsoft but with the motherboard's manufacturer's website;
try the digicam's memory card in a memory card reader.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
i try to upload photos from my nikon coolpix p50 to 'my pictures' by using my usb cord. it always used to work but not now. something pops up that says "please make sure the device is turned on and properly connected to the computer." i used the the same usb cord as before when it worked.
