Iron cuts off in the middle of ironing

I have a Rowenta iron model DE 635. I have had it for quite some time and have been very pleased with it. However, it has begun to malfunction. It will cut off during the middle of ironing. I have found that I can unplug it and then get it to work it again. It also began to spark the other day while I was ironing. It appears that a small hole has been made in the cord where it attaches to the iron casing. Do you think there is a replacement cord? Also, would the cord cause it to quit working like that?

It is probably an intermittent cord connection next to the strain relief. You can simply remove the back cover, cut the cord, pull the remaining cord (approx 6-8") and reconnect it. You can also order part # RS-DE 245954 the whole cord assembly including the circuit board for about $25.

Need the circuit board for a DE-871A Iron / Iron does not turn on

The electronic shutoff light blinks but won't stay on, so the iron won't get hot. Can this be repaired? Can I disable it?

I have a Rowenta Pro. Iron, model DE-86.1A with auto shut-off. It sticks on auto shut-off. I have to move it around for it to heat up, as indicated by the sensor light on the top.

I believe that is how the safety feature works.

Once the iron detects no movement for a certain period of time (the iron assumes you have finished ironing) the iron will shut of the heating element.

One you have moved it around, the timer should prevent it from auto shutting down for a period of time.
