The printer and copier are working fine but the scanner just wont seem to work. Followed the insturctions thoroughly and no response. Should I return it or is there some way to fix the problem.

i want to install the drivers into my windows vista laptop

  • Anonymous Apr 09, 2008

Printer and copy work but scan function does not work. When I go to the navigation window to scan and use the one step scan nothing happens and I get a "can not communicate with printer or check printer connection. The cable is good and I have checked in the device manager but no drivers are entered for the scanner.

  • pamelamyhre Apr 14, 2008

I'm having the same problem. I've tried turning off and rebooting the computer (Mac G4), and moving the Canon and connecting it to my Macbook Pro G5. No luck. It copies just fine, but won't scan. I get through the initial choices just fine, but then when I push the button to scan nothing happens. This all-in-one was scanning properly for months, and then suddenly this happens. Any ideas?

Bought Canon MP470 in Feb 2008. Just tried to use scanner and followed all instructions only to get message "Cannot communicate w/ scanner...Error Code 2,155,0". I looked this message up at Canon website. Instructions were to go to right click on My Computer. Then go to 'Manage' from drop down list. Then go to Services and Applications. Then go to Services. Look for WIA Windows Image Acquisition and click Start. In my case I clicked Restart as it was already started. Still doesn't work. Has anyone been able to get their scanner to work?

  • Lorich Apr 19, 2008

I am having the exact same issue. Printing works fine but scanner is not recognized.Rebooted, reinstalled. looked for new drivers.......no go.

  • Anonymous May 02, 2008

2/5/08 Same problem. Just doesn't want to scan. Brings up the window to choose the program to scan to and clicked on it but all stops there. Only about 1 month old.

I am having the same problem - my MP470 will not scan. My problem is exactly the same as all the others reported. Any suggestions.

I am having the exact same problem. The scanner does not work and have tried all the same things as the other posts with no luck.

  • Anonymous May 04, 2008

I am having the same problem. It just won't scan. I also get an error message that says insufficient memory.

  • PacemakerPro May 09, 2008

Just bought a brand new Pixma 470 and the printer and copier work fine, but the scan function just simply doesn't work! Same as 9 other people posted on FixYa. After choosing "scan," then "document," then "save as pdf file," a screen comes up on the scanner's digital display, saying to hit either black and white or colour = scan, but when you hit either button, or the OK button, nothing happens! There is nothing in the manual about this issue! And I need to scan something right this minute, that's due within the hour! That's why I bought the printer! aarrggghhh! Does anyone have a solution? Take it back?

  • Anonymous May 12, 2008

I also have same problem. Running WinXP, when trying to scan I get error 2,155,0. I have tried solution #1 below, and no change. This is brand new printer. I have tried scanning directly from unit, from software, and from third party software. The MP470 just refuses to scan.

  • mzdeep May 20, 2008

i press scan then photo then ok ten save to pc then start it does nothing

    will print and copy tho

  • reallyreally May 30, 2008

I purchased a new computer and printer from Best Buy, and the scanner doesn't work on Vista. BB's GeekSquad wants $80 just to look into the problem. Unbelievable, since these are two products they hooked me up with, but can anyone offer a solution??

  • fellybog Jun 15, 2008

This is ridiculous. Honestly! The Mp 470 and all printers should already come with the right usb cable. I went out and bought myself a double shield usb cable and it is still not scanning. I am reading these comments and I am having the exact same problems. Everything was installed on my pc, and when I press the green button, nothing is happening. No one should have to go through this with a product. Especially for the price.

I have the printer. You need to scan through your image software on your desktop. The button on the scanner does not function.

With your image software, there should be an "Import from Camera" and "Import from Scanner." Pick the latter, and it will prompt you through the process.

Took quite awhile to figure that out.

Had same problem. Downloaded MP Navigator from Canon and used the software to scan instead of the buttons on the printer. Nice thing is being able to save document as pdf.

  • robinann1 Jan 12, 2011

After downloading the MP Navigator from Canon, the scan button worked for me.

Try opening the application called Image Capture and then checking the Device tab and then make sure Canon MP470 is checked. Click Scan or Overview and it should scan.

I replaced the USB cable, and the scanner now works fine. Like Blasteroid wrote, use a high quality USB cable. I would even suggest a USB 2 cable. The scanner is not defective, it just cannot communicate with the computer. The solution is the USB cable used.

In order to fix your problem you must buy a DS (double shielded) USB printer cable about 1.8 m in length.  I had the same problem with the scanner on my canon pixma MP 140. After I changed the cable - works like a charm!!!

  • Anonymous May 20, 2008

I also changed drivers, tried a different usb port, still no go - the advice i got it from another forum.

I upgraded the drivers and software and it did not help. However, when I replaced the USB cable with a USB 2 it now works great. Thank you so much for a great fix to the problem.

I have a MP 470 printer & a BU-20 bluetooth adapter. The printer works good on bluetooth, but I can not scan, The system tells me that no scanner found. Should the scanner work with bluetooth???

I'm afraid not. The printer uses a push system so the printer cannot communicate with the computer. Therefore you cannot even get any basic information from the printer like ink levels. After reading the manual for the MP 470 the unfortunate thing is they don't explicitly say what functions you can do with bluetooth. I just assumed it would work like a cable, but bluetooth compatible does not imply what I thought.
