My HP Deskjet f4200 is not working. MAC. I got it a while ago and have only used it for printing. When I recently tried to scan, it would not work. I can't find a "driver" for it. And I have no idea where to look. I have a Mac. I have re-installed it and everything. It's never been unplugged since I got it.

I just installed the software and am now scanning problem-free.

Remove the printer to the trash. Disconnect and reconnect the printer. Everything will work fine.

Check to see that your Scanner drivers have been installed. Click on Start, then Printers and Faxes and see if a Scanner is listed. If not, you need to install the drivers.

Also, when you uninstall the printer drivers, you first need to disconnect the printer from the computer, and unplug the printer from the power source. Leave the printer unplugged for at least 15 minutes to clear the printer's cache memory.

Next, go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and uninstall the printer software. Then, turn off your computer.

Next, reboot your computer. Place the Deskjet cd in the drive and follow instructions for reinstalling the printer software and drivers.
CAUTION: DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PRINTER CABLE TO YOUR COMPUTER UNTIL PROMPTED BY THE INSTALL DISK!!

I had the same problem, found out that you should not install the disk that came with the printer. If you do it won't scan. The drivers are already in Mac OSX. You have to uninstall whatever you installed...throw the disk away. To scan go to System Preferences, click printer, then scanner button and it works. Hope this helps!
