HMMM. DVDs connect to Video, not channels.
Your direct TV will be connected to Video In.
I recommend connecting the DVD with Component or HDMI for best results.
You select the DVD with 'Video' or 'Source' on your TV remote.

Testimonial: "the answer is outstanding. Yes switch to video on the tv We forgot we have not used the dvd for a long time this answer really help us thank y"

Set up indoor antenna

Plug antenna cable directly into antenna input on tv. Place antenna where you believe you will get a signal (don't know where you live but you can look up site map for optimum direction). Go into tv menu set tv to air and auto scan air channels. Your set will receive and memorize available channels. In your sets menu you should have a strength meter. You can use this to tune in the strongest possible signal. You may have to go back and rescan the channels because if you improve the antennas position you might pick up more channels and they won't just come in automatically. Once you've scanned and received maximum number of channels there will be no need to rescan again. If you do you run the risk of losing some channels and only a rescan under optimum conditions with regards to antenna position and environmental conditions will gain those back. Keep in mind some fringe channels may come and go. Hope this helps.

SNOW AND DON'T KNOW IF ITS ON RIGHT CHANNEL FOR DIRECT TV

If possible connect via one of the rear sets of audio and video inputs from the direct box--this is more common than using tuner in set.

Black rectangle in the screen and wont change channels

The rectangle is the set or the box if used in the closed caption area is set or TEXT is selected--turn that off.

Won't change channels: up or down? Direct enter a channel with the remote 03 and enter to see if it works that way.

Also need to know if you are using a box for signal.

Resolve the text issue first so you can clearly see the regular screen.

Let me know what happens and what you have tried.

How do i get reception with only a cable connection...no box. i don't know what settings to have the tv on.

In the main menu select "CABLE" AND NOT AIR.

With the cable connected to the coax fitting then turn set on and look for AUTO PROGRAM------engage that and the set will scan thru all the available channels.

If it misses any you can with the remote direct enter a channel and in the main menu "add" it to the up down memory.

It is also helpful to "skip" out channels you do not want in the up/down memory-----this is in main menu also.

I usually skip out the Golf channel and others I never watch.

Let me know if you have questions.

After the tv is tuned to a new channel, a black square appears over the majority of the screen. The Direct TV tech said that it was a parental control feature that needed to be reset

Actually, your TV's closed-captioning is turned on and it's set to "text" mode. This causes the set to blank out the area where the text would go if there was any. Most remote controls have a single button to turn captioning on, so it's easy to get into this mode without knowing it. Press that button or use the TV menu to go through the caption settings to turn them off, and the box should go away. (Parental controls don't just blank out a part of the screen; they disable the channel completely. I hate it when a technician won't say "I don't know" and then gives out wrong information.)

Toshiba CF32G50 32" TV - wont turn to channel 3

try entering the channel directly via the remote by pressin"03" if that fails check to see if your cable box has a 3/4 switch on the back. if so set it to 4.
The main problem however, is that the TV needs to have the channels reprogrammed by following the instruction manual and/or on screen menu.

there are several. try each one seperate.

1. press and hold setup button until the red light stays on.
2. press and release the desired mode button (example t. v.) the light will blink and then stay on.
3. enter one of the 4digit codes.
note: if the code is valid the light will turn off if it flashes it is an invalid code.
4. with the device on press the channel up and down. if the remote only controls some of the functions try another code.

these steps will set up the first device and then to set up the second device just repeat the steps choosing the other device and the code for it.

CODES: for the tv: 0514,1174,0062,0204,0184,0208,0205,0206,0207,0004,0189,0183,0019,0200,0081,1149,1154,0288,0456,0003,0008,0068,0075,0086,0087,0141

Connecting Hitachi VCR to my Direct TV.

Connect your Direct TV to the Ant. In connection on your VCR. When you want to watch TV, just tune the TV to channel 3 (or whatever channel the Receiver is set for). When you wish to record, set your VCR to that same channel and set your TV to the channel that your VCR outputs to. For simplicity sake, I would suggest setting both systems to channel 3 and just watching your program through the VCR. If you are still using an "off air" antenna, then connect that antenna to the ANT. IN connection on your Direct TV receiver and when you turn off the dish, it will pass the signal through just like the VCR would.
