Hi, i just got my first "smart" phone, the eris droid htc from verizon. im very bad with computers and could use some help. how do i transfer data from my old sim card onto my new phone?

Press Home > Menu, then tap Settings > Security > Factory data reset. On the Factory data reset screen, tap Reset phone and then tap Erase everything. To reset the phone using phone buttons, with the phone turned off, press and hold the Volume Down + Send + End buttons. The reset process will start after a few seconds.

Try pulling the battery out for at least 15 seconds and the put it back in and reboot. If that doesn't work, try resetting it by holding the volume down button and the Send button, then while holding both those buttons, press the End key. If worse comes to worse, go to the Verizon store and see if they can help.
If you go here: http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Roaming/Asia-Pacific/India.html#network you can see that Verizon does have roaming agreements with CDMA providers throughout most of India, so I think your phone will work just fine.
Before you go, you need to dial *611 from your phone and have them activate International Roaming on your account. The rates are available on the link above, and they are quite expensive, so be aware of that before you go.
You should probably also disable Data Roaming on your phone before you go to avoid a massive bill, international data is extremely expensive.

There is no way verizon can download all your contacts for you to turn around and put them back on the phone? I have never heard of them not being able to do that. I know a few people that have had their contacts downloaded, phone reset then put back on the phone by using the computer system that verizon uses to transfer contacts to a new phone.
i have htc droid eris verizon cdma usa handset , it doesnt have a sim slot in it, i would like to use it in india for reliance, network, is it possible to unlock and use it in india, it is having s.n number and meid 14 digit number
droid eris does not have a sim holder as it is exclusively locked to verizon and because verizon is not a GSM provider, you cant use droid eris with sim.
