The display has gone blank on T1033 . the only way to get towel rack to work is by pressing the on/off selector

1) Try resetting timer. Aube/Honeywell TI033 7-day 2400watt timer cannot be exposed to temperatures below freezing, even though manual says -5 F. High temperature range is 122 F .
This timer has 3-year limited warranty. Internal battery is non-replaceable.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Aube-timers-and-manuals.html

2) There is no other programmable in-wall timer that can handle 2400 watts without using contactor.

3) Replace with GE 15132 timer for cold environments, and single-pole or 3-way operation: Use contactor for heavy loads.

I installed a digital timer GE 15086. Does it work with fluorescent lights?

15086 manual says 15A Tungsten.
Tungsten is incandescent.
manuals usually say CFL or fluorescent if they are made for those loads.

Lost power and need to reset the timer.

Aube timers have back up battery that recharges after power resumes.
Battery should hold programming during outage.
If battery does not charge, then screen doesn't light up and programming not possible.

Aube makes several timers.

Will this work with an energy efficient low wattage bulb (below 40 watts? Can I connect it in an old house with only 2 wires in the box (no separate ground wire)?

I wrote a page on Honeywell Aube timers with manuals for each model number
http://waterheatertimer.org/Aube-timers.html

Manual for T1032 7-day 500 watt timer says it works on florescent lights, but doesn't specifically say compact florescent.

Minimum load is 40 Watts.

Cold weather: I wrote to Aube about rechargeable battery, and they say timer should be located inside house since cold temps (below freezing) will cause display to slow or stop functioning.

Two wire installation: Aube is made for two-wire switch replacement with no ground.

How to wire:
After connecting wires show below, turn on power and push on-off button.
If lights work, timer is correct.
If lights don't work, then reverse wires.

GFCI circuit Breaker Trips

The neutral for that circuit must be connected under the neutral terminal connection set screw_on_ the GFCI breaker. The (usually coiled) white wire that is permanently connected to the GFCI breaker is then connected to the "neutral block in the panel."
