Most likely when removing a copy someone hit the scan lock on the front of the machine.
Look on the front , bottom side of the scanner where the paper comes out. You will see a latch that is used for shipping the machine that is more than likely locked.
Thats what causes an L1 90 percent of the time. Just slide it to the unlocked position or take a small screw driver and remove it and throw it away. You can put a piece of tape over the opening to keep dust and moisture out

There is a transparent plastic knob underneath the scanner unit that holds it in place while in its box. After installing you must turn clockwise this plastic to release the scanner mechanism. otherwise a L1 Error will appear on screen.

A letter "L" and a number "1" appear alternately = The scan head locking switch is locked. Unlock the scan head locking switch. Hope this helps. Good luck.
