I own an Amana Model # ABD2533DEQ Bottom freezer refrigerator. It is 3 1/2 yrs. old. It started a buzzing noise off and on about 2 months ago. Sometimes it would buzz about every 10-15mins. for about 5-6 seconds. It was annoying, especially when we were sleeping. We had a repairman come out and wouldn't you know, it didn't make the sound the entire time he was here. He left, having done nothing. OK, but the next day it started buzzing again and that was 2 weeks ago. Now today the items in the freezer are thawing out. I called for service again, but what should I expect.(I did empty the freezer to save the food... and as I write it is buzzing about every 5 mins). Arrrgh. I'm worried it's going to start on fire or something. PS: I do have service agreement.
My refirgerator (ABD2533DEB) has been doing the same thing -- buzzing off and on for several weeks. My local repair man was just here and he checked/tried the relay and was not sucessful and now I am waiting for 48 more hours to have the Amana repairman come. My local repair man was very nice and did not charge me and he told me he was pretty sure it was the compressor and to have the Amana repair man to just go ahead and bring a compressor with him. I think he has seen this problem before :). Hopefully fixed on Thursday.
I had the same issue - but it was the relay overload (which essentially starts the compressor). Perhaps worth trying first as it is only a $34 part. The switch tries for about 10 seconds to start the compressor (producing the buzzing noise) and then retries 3 to 4 minutes later. In early stages of failure, the switch will eventually succeed and the compressor will start. But once it fails completely, it will just repeat the same cycle over and over again.
Compressor was replaced (also see additional comments made).

this is exactly the same problem we are having--if you hear of a solution, please post!
thanks-
UPDATE to my posting: Maytag repairman came yesterday and he replaced the compressor. I asked if the compressor failure was actually not due to the compressor but rather to a system problem causing the compressor to fail. I read that in another posting and thought I should ask him. He said "no" and that he was putting in a brand new and "better" compressor than what I had. OK, we shall see. Let's hope so. As a side note: Maytag repairman was extremely courteous & kind. He vacumed up all the dust behind and in the refrig. I am going to call his employer and tell them about him. So many times people only call about the negative... not this time.
i have the same problem with amana side by side. The frig is still cold. the buzzing is every five minutes for about 3 times then its quiet. Later on will start up again. The frig is 3 1/2 years old. Im thinking this should be a recall item... Repair person is coming out today. Ill will update with resolution.
Buzzing sound and repeated thawing and freezing on my six year old Amana bottom mount. The relay switch was replaced November 18/08 and fridge worked fine until December 4/08. Same problem now occurring so it is the relay switch but there has to be additional problems to cause the new part to fail so quickly.
