SOURCE: Sub stopped working, unless i push on it?

sounds like maybe the wiring from the cone to the magnet is ripped or broken.... which is why when you push the cone in it works because it pushes it far enough to make the wires touch just barely, but when you let it go the wires seperate and you get no sound.

Your wire is built with slack, so when the cone goes in and out during a song, the wire can move with it and not get broken. but when you cone moves too in or too far out, then that wire can snap or become disconnected.

I have fixed this by soldering the copper wire, but you may lose some power because your copper wire might be a bit shorter(it will probly break again)... or you can lengthen it, but it is not easy to solder... some places will fix it for you but the cost may be more than what it is worth.

This is just a guess, take your speaker outta the box, and look to see if these wires are broken, lose, or frayed.

good luck.

SOURCE: The foam surround on my subs are cracked and torn....

wow i won't throw them away or anything like that. You can always go down to your local JL Audio dealer to see how much to refoam the subs. Lot cheaper then buy new ones..... That's the way i would go.. Hope this was helpfull

How big of hole do i need for the mtx 6000 thunder 10in

The MTX Thunder 6000 T61544A is a 15" Subwoofer meaning you will need a 15" hole to fit the subwoofer into. The mounting plate that surrounds the subwoofer will extend past 15" allowing you to screw the sub in properly. Be sure to use a box that is at least 12 inches deep (sub is 10 inches deep by specifications + 2 inches for good air cushion behind.

I have a mtx thunder 7801 and a sledge hammer box

Sounds like the subs are blown with the voicecoils fused together which means the amp is/was seeing a dead short ( zero Ohms reisitence) not good for any amp. Disconnect the speaker terminals from the amp and see if it turns on. The funny smell might have been the subs blowing up, i'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

2 MTX Thunder Problem.. Bridging?

Is there a option on the chanels that say ''Bridged''? If so, you can hook the subs up in parellel or series to get different ohm loads. Usually the lower ohms, the more power amp puts out. Those subs can handle 225 watts RMS whitch means the power it can handle constantly. If the amp gives more than 225 watts RMs, you could be at risk of blowing the sub. If you could give me the model # of the amp, I can be of more help.

Surround problem

if you have woofer in tight enclosure you might want to use a vented enclosure .This will lower speaker suspension displacement .Or if you already have speaker in vented box ,it also possible you have wrong volume box..If surround is just ungluing from basket rim .You can try using GORILLA glue to reglue to rim .If its tearing at cone then lower the volume.LOL
