Screen turns red then shuts off

the blue crt has failed most likely. very common with that model.

crts are bad

had tv that did the same thing after three years but they were green cost me 300 bucks to get it fixed and the guy said every 3 to 5 expect it

If the screen looks like the one in the link I posted, then you might want to try fixing it with what is suggested on the site. Keep in mind that this is a band aid fix which compensates for weakening components, however it "should" buy you some time. Don't do these adjustments if this is not the same problem you are having. If the TV shuts itself down, check to see if the blinking code is the same as the one in the web site.

There is only a few reasons for this problem and it is a bad video IC on RED CRT board or Defective RED TUBE disconnect CRT board at end of neck on red tube Look at IC on That board while disconnected from tube turn TV on if it keeps playing without shutting off Tube is defective.

Read the manual. Something is not right.

the green crt is most likely shorted. thats fairly common with that chassis.
