My Seagate 500GB keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting on its own every half an hour or so. Is there something wrong with it?
If the drive is internal, then it's time for replace. it will disc/rec when overheating.
if the drive is external and powered by usb port (or usb hub) check if the port has enough power. and if the cable to HD is a Y cable (one side to hd and two to usb ports, one for data, one for power). and dont connect two peripherals that need power from usb on same pc, like a hd and a dvd, they will rob energy one from another, both mailfunctionating.
This problem is documented on over 75,000 posts internet wide.
1. Check manuf. website for firmware upgrade or problem with firmware.
2. Plug USB drives into back Ports
3. Change Power options in the "Hard drive Sleep"
4. Turn off BIOS LEGACY support
5. Upgrade to a minimun of a USB 2.0 port
6. Change Hardware Drive settings to " Optimize for Performance" and NOT "Optimize for quick removal"

Just remove and put the cable to the motherboard again if you can and still if u are facing same problem than you'll have to get in contact with Ur engineer. Because it may be ur hard disk problem.
Is this an External HDD?
