My hard drive keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting angain.

My Seagate 500GB keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting on its own every half an hour or so. Is there something wrong with it?

Just remove and put the cable to the motherboard again if you can and still if u are facing same problem than you'll have to get in contact with Ur engineer. Because it may be ur hard disk problem.

If the drive is internal, then it's time for replace. it will disc/rec when overheating.

if the drive is external and powered by usb port (or usb hub) check if the port has enough power. and if the cable to HD is a Y cable (one side to hd and two to usb ports, one for data, one for power). and dont connect two peripherals that need power from usb on same pc, like a hd and a dvd, they will rob energy one from another, both mailfunctionating.

This problem is documented on over 75,000 posts internet wide.
    1. Check manuf. website for firmware upgrade or problem with firmware.
    2. Plug USB drives into back Ports
    3. Change Power options in the "Hard drive Sleep"
    4. Turn off BIOS LEGACY support
    5. Upgrade to a minimun of a USB 2.0 port
    6. Change Hardware Drive settings to " Optimize for Performance" and NOT "Optimize for quick removal"

I have an seagate freeagent 500gig external hardrive and it fell off the counter and the part that connects to the cable for transfer data snapped off from the drive. I wiped my laptop and now I can't get...

there is,open the 500gb external case and take out the hard drive. go to your nearest computer shop and pick up an empty external hard drive case for internal drives.make sure its a sata drive, get your hard drive and put it in and reconnect it to your computer. those cases run around 80 bucks to you may need to look online for one to get a better deal

Hi i was having a few problems with my maxtor 500gb external hard drive after using with my xbox, i soon came to see that it had been reformatted into FAT32 so it wasnt letting me move files that were over...

You could download and install Seatools, free, from the Seagate website (Seagate incorporates Maxtor). You can run a check and possibly repair the disc if it is damaged. Seatools and can also automatically report on the manufacturer's 5 year warranty, and provides a reference to have it repaired under any guarantee which may remain.

Its slow, does not boot up after shutdown (unless re-plugged again) disconnects randomly and has hard time searching files!

download the seagate utility from seagate and run a diagnostic. It will tell you what's wrong with the drive. Your drive should have come with this software on it.

Seagate external hard drive problem

I have the same problem with a 500GB HD by the same maker. Fortunately mine started throwing "delayed write failed" errors regarding the MFT. I had enough time to save my data. Your event log should say something to point you in the right direction. Make sure your pc is up to date with the latest service pack too and start looking for a new External HD. Tiger Direct has great deals. I got a 1TB for about $120 Good Luck!

Seagate 500gb Free Agent Ex Hard Drive - Class Action siut

DO NOT buy a Seagate freeagent drive under any condition if it comes as a gift return it or re-gift to some one you don't like. Like so many others my 500GB external drive just quit working. Has only been plugged in about 6 times and then back into a cabinet to keep safe. In 10 years between 2 workstations 3 laptops and 4 external drives. The only drives that have ever gone bad are the Seagates and newer Maxators. I still have 4 Western digital drives that still work and get used in an external case for back up. They have never failed. Seagate should be responsible for data time and mental anguish.
