Do you need to torque oil pan bolts?
Engine oil pan bolts range in torque from seven foot-pounds to 22 ft-lb or more for large engines with heavier pans and bolts. Once you've torqued the bolts and filled the engine with oil, you should run the engine for five minutes to bring it up to normal operating temperature.

How to replace a oil pan gasket 2004 nissan xterra

are you referring to the lower sub pan or main oil pan? the lower sub pan on most nissan engines are fairly easy to diy. just unbolt all the fastening bolts and you would need a pry bar or screwdriver to pry off pan. remove the old liquid gasket on pan and on main pan mating surface and reapply liquid gasket. reinstall lower sub pan and install fastening bolt.
if you are referring to the engines main oil pan its a more extensive repair. you would need the correct tools and equipment such as trans jack and engine support holder.

I need to replace the oil pan in a 2001 dodge neon. Is this a DYI job??

Do you need to replace the oil pan it self or just the oil pan seal? This can been a DYI job, depending on your experience working with cars. You will need a your basic tools. (Jack Stands, Jack, Oil Container, wrenches and sockets, new oil and filter.) The first thing you will need to do is drain the oil. This is a good time to change your oil since you will be taking the oil pan completely off.
Steps to removing oil pan
1) Set car on jack stands or ramps in order to work under the car. (Be Safe, Be Smart!)
2) You will need a wrench or socket to remove oil drain plug and drain the oil out of the car
-This is a good time to change your oil, so replace oil filter as well.
3) Once the oil is drained you can take of the oil pan off. Most oil pans are just bolted. Not to hard to take of.
4) Once off this is a good time to clean the oil pan if your just replacing the gasket. Do not use lubricant cleaners like wd-40. Brake cleaner has worked for me, you can also ask your local auto shop or autozone for a good cleaner.
5)Replace the oil pan with new gasket making sure there are no tears in gasket and it sits well between the oil pan and engine block. (Make sure there is nothing in the oil pan as well that could cause harm)
6) once you replaced the oil pan its just as simple as putting oil back into your car like you are changing your oil.

How do i replace a oil pan on this car

First, drain the oil.

You will need to get an engine hoist and lift the engine about a half foot up. This will require unhooking at least one motor mount that is closest to the oil pan.

Once the engine is lifted, you can unbolt the oil pan and remove/replace it.

Do be mindful of what sort of sockets you need as some Passats require special hex bolts tools or other odd tools.
