My D40 Nikon lens

On my D40 Nikon camera the autofocus on my 18 to 55mm lens is set to A but my pictures are very blury what should i do

  • kakima May 11, 2010

Is autofocus turned on in the camera body?

Could the blurriness be caused by camera motion? What kind of shutter speeds are you using? Try setting the camera on a tripod or table or other steady surface.

Sigma DL IF 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Lens is ok for D40?

That would depend on what you mean by "ok." Assuming you get the lens with a Nikon mount, it will fit onto the D40 and meter properly. However, the D40 lacks an autofocus motor and thus this lens will not autofocus. You can still focus manually.

Will the Nikon Sigma 70-210 F4-5.6 55MM AutoFocus lens fit on my nikon d40?

Yes, it will fit. However, lacking a focus motor, it will not autofocus on the D40.

Using a Nikon D40 digital slr with a AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200 1:3.5-5.6 G ED lens I was previously able to autofocus bun now am not. Can you suggest reasons why this may be?

Please check if the Autofocus-switch on your lens is set to M/A. Also check if the Autofocus on your camera is switched on. For detailed information about your cameras autofocus, please check this site: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40/af-settings.htm

I have a nikon d-40 is there a seeting on it that well let the cameras lens focus when you push the button half way down. I took picture but I had to manual focus I don't know if it the lens or this camera...

Any of the autofocus settings will attempt to focus when the shutter is pressed halfway. What lens are you using? If it doesn't have an internal focus meter, then the D40 won't autofocus with it no matter what. If it does have an internal motor, then check to make sure the lens is set on autofocus.

Check Custom Setting 12. If it's set on AF-On then the shutter button won't focus.

If this doesn't fix it, specify the lens and any other details.

When taking sport(footbal) pictures they are coming out blury

Set your D40 to S(shutter Speed) mode. Adjust the shutter speed to at least 1/250 of a second. Try that. Also, buy the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. He does a great job explaining the meanings behind all the settings.

Nikon d40 wont autofocus

Your 28-90 AF-D lens can't autofocus with the D40, which requires AF-S lenses with a focus motor in the lens. Sigma lenses with "HSM" (HyperSonic Motor) in the name also have the focus motor.

Autofocus will not work,

Camera wont let you take a picture until focus is locked, why are you using M (manual focus) if you expect autofocus to do it for you? In M mode it is up to you to focus correctly or camera will not take the picture.

Nikon d40 digital camera

When the camera is in auto focus mode, it will not take the picture until it locks onto a subject. If there is not enough light, the camera will "hunt" for something to focus on. Since it can't define any edges, it won't allow the shutter to release.

The D40 base model does NOT have a powered focus lever for autofocus, so if the autofocus is not working, suspect the lens.
