Kenmore electric cooktop not working on low eat

One of the burners on my Kenmore Radiant 30" electric cooktop is only turning on with a heat of 7 or greater. If this burner is not turned to at least 7 it remains completely off and cold. The model is 911.42679. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

If it was the burner element it either would work or not (no in between)
It has to be the switch

Inner burner-- front right burner - does not heat up
you have either a bad switch or a bad element. If you plan on repairing this yourself, turn off the power to the unit BEFORE removing it from countertop. A continuity tester will be needed to properly test components. Nice Saturday morning homeowner project.

Are there problems with the kenmore 36-in. radiant cooktops 42749 hot surface indicator lights?
Most likely the problem is in the heat control switch.Cannot be repaired you will have to replace it. To make sure, swap it with one of the other burners that do not have the problem. If the problem goes away, you know its the switch.

You are right it is the infinate heat control. This has no thermostat. It works by letting the burner cycle on for longer periods of time on the higher settings on high it is on constantly. The contacts are probably fused inside This part shouldn't be more than $25.
