Noisy precor treadmill motor

When I turn the unit on, there is a very loud guttural sound coming from the motor which never goes away. 9/10 on a 1/10 scala. Also, a faint tinny sound is detected from inside the motor. At low speed, the motor occasionally changes speed with no apparent reason.

We have a couple Precor 954i treadmills that hav ethe same noise problem with the motor. I called Precor and they said the replacement motor is the same as the orginal. I do not want to buy the same motor if it is going to have the same problem a couple years down the road.
I would prefer to fix the motors if possible. I asked a couple service tech guys in my area and they say it is very hard to get the bearings out of the motor and to put back in.
Any advice on how to repair the motors is appreciated.

I recently bought a used Precor 954i it worked fine then when i brought it home and wired it in with a 20amp breaker and 240 volt im getting error 29 as soon as i turn the machine on any ideas?

Precor Error 29, Excessive AC Input Current Probable Cause 1. The running belt and/or deck are badly worn.
2. Bad lower PCA.
3. Drive motor is shorted or de-magnetized causing a high power demand.
Corrective Action
  1. Check the amp draw using a clamp on AC volt-amp meter during loaded and no load conditions and compare values to a similar treadmill that is known to have a good running belt and deck. Replace the belt and/or deck if necessary. Don't forget, some units have a double sided deck which means it may be flipped over rather than replaced if it has an unused side.
  2. Test unit with a known good lower PCA. Replace lower PCA if necessary.
  3. Test unit with a known good drive motor. Replace drive motor if necessary.

Motor making loud buzzing noise

The grinding noise could be asking for lube. If that is possible, do it.

Upon powering up my precor treadmill goes straight to the highest incline

hi,
Your treadmills motor controlling circuit have some problem. thats why you cant adjust its speed. its running at its high speed because its motor controlling IGBT become shorted. As these potion of your treadmill is a high voltage point, i will recommend you to consult the manufacturer for support.

Hi, my Precor 9.21 treadmil was working fine, however all of a sudden it became unblanced, i stop it to see what the problem was and then it dropped from about 3 inch, and now there is no power, would...

Unplug unit remove motor shroud take a look at incline motor frame assembly, by the sound of it maybe metal fatigue failure disengaging the incline motor itself and could have damage it. This would be my best guess if so contact Precor.
