Hi, Here are a few steps to help you with this issue.
Step
1
Make sure your
car
is level. Any angle can give a false reading. Warm the engine. TURN THE
ENGINE OFF. Now wait for a while, to let the oil to come down to the
pan.(5 minutes is enough) Now, find and pull out the oil dipstick. If
you can't find oil dipstick, check the owner's manual. You will find it
on the top of the engine with a brightly colored handle that says
"Engine Oil.
Step
2
Now pull the dipstick out of the engine and wipe off the oil on the
stick. Be careful this oil will drip. Once the stick is clean reinsert
it in the engine.
Step
3
Now, pull the dipstick again and check the oil level. It should be at
"FULL" or slightly below the "FULL" mark. If it's not below or at the
"ADD OIL" mark its OK. It is good to top it. However, this is hard to
do without overfilling. If you overfill, the engine will just kick out
the excess oil and may leak it on your driveway. If you wait to the add
oil mark, your engine will normally take one quart.
Step
4
Check the oil condition: If it's really black, it's time to change it. Normally you keep track of the
mileage
since last oil change. CHANGE YOUR OIL BASED ON, TIME IN ENGINE AND/OR
MILAGE AS PER THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS. If it's slightly-brown,
it's probably O.K.
If it's white (coffee or milk color) it means
the engine has a problem. Coolant has mixed with the oil due to an
internal engine problem, like a blown head gasket or worse. Call a
mechanic.
Step
5
To top off the engine oil you need to know the oil brand and viscosity.
Usually, indicated on the last oil change receipt. If you don't know
this, it's best to change the oil and put in one brand.
Find the add oil cap. Again refer to the owners manually. It is usually labeled "ADD OIL" or "OIL"
Add
a little amount of the oil. Wait for a minute to let the oil get to the
pan. Again check the oil level. (steps 2 & 3) If it's still low,
add some more. Don't overfill! Remember to reinstall the dipstick and
oil filler cap when you're finished.
Please rate and god bless.
