Check
the USB cable for damage and dirt, especially at the ends. Then try
using the wall charger, as this will provide greater power input than
the computer/USB.
Broken charger or USB cord
Try using different chargers to see if you may have a problem with your charger or cord.
Obstructed/bad dock connector
Inspect
the 30-pin dock connector at the bottom of the iPhone for dirt, lint,
and damaged pins. Clean out the dock connector very carefully with a
tooth pick or soft toothbrush. If the dock connector is broken, you will
have to replace it.
Check your charger in a different iPhone, or the sync cable also. Check to see if your dock connector isn't tarnished, if it is clean it with a CLEAN DRY used toothbrush. Has your phone been wet?
These are all the typical culprits when a phone will not charge. I hope it isn't the wet problem! Good luck!

That is about the amount of time when my 3GS stopped charging. The USB charger through the computer stopped working on all computers, and my wall charger for some reason continued to work sporadically. I changed the entire charging dock and that fixed it right up!
If your iPhone's battery runs very far down, the iPhone won't turn on. That's because it's using its remaining battery life to preserve your data and settings. So, your iPhone could be refusing to turn on because its battery doesn't have enough juice. In that case, plug your iPhone into a wall charger or into your computer (plug it directly into the computer; some USB ports on keyboards don't have enough power to charge iPhones). Let it sit for 10-20 minutes. If it was low on battery and needed a charge, when it's got enough juice to power the screen, it will turn on and show you its charging status, starting with the red battery icon.During this process, you may also want to make sure there's no lint packed into your cable or the iPhone's dock connector. This isn't a hugely common problem, but a lot of pocket lint could interfere with the iPhone getting a charge.
The instruction manual says, "Don?t connect iPhone to the USB port on your keyboard?it does
not have enough power." There should be no problem not using the dock.
