How do I wire for 2 seperat lights on a commom system?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

I need more info. Do you have two light switches like the pair pictured? Does the switch box have three sets of wires? (Each set having a black, a white and a bare wire.)

{SW1}---Light 1 switched leg to fixture 1
HOT wire (Line or Feed)----{
{SW2}---Light 2 switched leg to fixture 2

The wire supplying power to the switches will be connected to the "LINE" terminals tied together with a breakaway tab (common feed). The upper "LOAD" side terminal will output to the first light and the lower "LOAD" side terminal will output to the second light. The neutral (White) wires if present will be joined together (wirenut).

All electrical work should only be done by qualified individuals.

How to wire two lights from one soure that have two differant switch with one being a 2 way?

In the schematic supplied, there are several options.
SW1 which is a regular SPST single pole single throw switch will open (off) or close (on) the circuit to lamp LA1.
SW2 is a two-way switch which turns LA2 off/on via SW2a.
SW2b is not connected.
SW3 and SW4 are two 2-way switches to switch LA3 on or off from either SW3 or SW4.
When both are in position a or position b then LA3 is on.
Otherwise LA3 is off.
This is often called 'staircase switching' as it can be used on a staircase.

I have a 1995 GMC Sierra an the third eye brake light comes on but the other brake light dont work

Could be both bulbs have burned out at once. Or could be the brake light switch. The third brake light and the normal brake lights operate seperatly. Or could be the wires.

Hello can u tell me how to wire in my car speackers as iv noticed its got 4 spade conectors on the speackers thanks kyle

The spade connectors are for wireing in (seires, 2 or more in 1Channell) or seperatly 1 speaker per channell,or output wires. you can hook them up straight to each output. 1 output = 2 wires. +,and a -. Make sure each one is hooked to the right one one the speaker. Possitive lead to possitive side of speaker.

Not sure how to wire this switch

Switch will have a commom terminal that the hot wire connects to.
The other three terminals are for the devices -- light, fan and other device.

The white wires should be the grounded wire returns for the circuits unless they are identified by color tape to be hot line side of power.

Be careful of the grounded side of circuit, can shock or kill, treat all wires as being energised. If you are not sure, use a electrical tester,
or get help.
