We just went through this with Comcast, and here is what they said. A household with cable is entitled to one modem only, and to get service on another computer we had to get a router. They said we COULD have another modem for the other computer, but we would have to pay the regular monthly premium for the extra modem. Hence, I bought a wireless router, and it works great. You can see what AT&T can do- maybe they're different, but I doubt it. Doesn't hurt to ask, and maybe they have another suggestion.

How do I find the SSID so I can set up my new wireless printer?

Most new modem/routers come with a pre-set SSID & password. They are generally located on a label on the rear or underside of the unit.

In the even that yours is not "broadcasting" it's SSID, you'll need to access the modem/router web interface (a webpage) & verify or tick the box which activates broadcast of the network name (SSID).

You can Google for your brand of modem/router to find it's default web address (usually begins something like 192.168....) and username/password. Type that number into the address bar of any browser, input the default user/PW, & access the modem/router's settings. From there, you'll look for the settings page which talks about the network/wireless.

Good luck!

How to conect to wifi

You need to obtain and connect a wireless router to the modem to add a wireless network. Use an RJ-45 between the WAN port on the router and to the yellow port on the TM822G (or similar Arris telephony modem). Check with your ISP. If you have set your computer to obtain an IP address and DNS server automatically, you will have the router's wired connection set up immediately.

You will need to check the router's manual to find its IP address and administrative user name and password. Using a computer with a wired ethernet connection to the router, log in and set up the wireless network; you probably will want to change the network's default name to one that is easier to remember. Enable the encryption and use a password on your wireless network. (I recommend disabling the guest account option.)

Then go to your devices that can connect to the wireless network and set them up to find that network. (For some tablets, see the Settings > Network > Wireless menus. On Windows 7 and 8 computers, enable the wireless adapter if needed. Then go to the Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Then set up a new connection.) Some routers have a WPS button on the back or front. If you press this button when prompted by the device, the router will send out a signal that will pair the device and the router without much effort. For other devices, you will need set the device to search for available networks and then type in the password.

I hope this helps.

Hi Support team, I use Modem Motorola SB100 with Linksys WAP54G, and DLink Wireless G DWA USB Adapter to connect to Linksys WAP from my PCDesktop. Connection from the PC to Linksys is ok but can't...

peter_picasa:

You cannot use a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to connect directly to your IPS's modem. A WAP does not provide the ability to share a single IP address on the internet like a router does.

Either return the WAP for a refund and buy a wireless router or buy an Ethernet wired-only router and plug the WAP into the LAN side of that router. You would then plug the WAN side of the Ethernet wired router into your modem.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I am using a Belkin router and I cannot connect to Internet

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that yopu have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.
