Hmmm my sussgestion in yourr case is that, don't attach all things at once. do the following step bye step.

Step 1). Attach SMPS (power supply to the board), Front Panel Connectio, and an in built speaker and CPU (don't add RAM, HDD, FDD, VGA Card or any thing els)

Power on and watch/Listen carefully:

Case 1: if you can hear a long beep, then your CPU and board is OK

Case 2: No beep means CPU or board is faulty. Try to Reconnect CPU again and do step 1.

Step 2) Now power off and add RAM only.

Power on and watch/Listen carefully.

Case 1: if you can hear the ok beep it means till now your RAM is Ok
otherwise clean your RAM connection and add it again.

Further you can add your VGA, HDD CD-ROM/DVD, PCI Devices etc. and easily short-out your problem.
For your help here is picture of general moherboard with connection details. hp motherboard startup problem!! - 86c6af2.jpg
Thanks
Iqbal

The fans are working means your SMPS is Ok and power supply goes to the mainboard.

Now your board or CPU may have faulty. If you have vaccume cleaner clean the CPU socket on the board. It might be dusty and your CPU might not be connected properly.

So after cleaning the socket. Attach CPU and try to hear the long beep for missing RAM. If not then make connection slightly temper to the board and try agian.

If you have another CPU of same configuration, you should try it.

    Thanks

    Iqbal

As a last resort I would try a flash of the BIOS.
If the bios was corrupt you would get no beeps and no video.

Try this my friend... remove the cmos battery for at least 5mins.
while the battery is out, set the jumper settings to clear CMOS. few seconds only then put back to save CMOS settings.

after 5mins, put back the battery, plcae your CPU, sonnect your power supply.... can you see if your board uses an support power supply 12Volts for the newer CPUs. its a four pin colored yellow black wires. this has to be connected to your board. But if this models supported only by 20pin power supply then you will not find the 4pin additional power jacks for the board. anyway, try this battery thing to reset the whole system. it may work.

try changing your power supply, if still does not work then you have a defective system board, only compaq can handle repair. forget about flashing bios etc... change your power supply. remove also your PCI video card and use your on board. remove all other peripherals just the basic then try to run the board with new power supply ATX.

When startup button is pressed fan runs and orange LED comes on for a second and then stops (have changed motherboard and tested with different PSU still not working).

Hello!

Try only motherboard, ram and CPU, without keyboard, mouse, grafik card, hard disk, cd or dvd rom. If you have one normal beep, you have trouble with some of another parts.

If you still have a problem try motherboard, another ram and CPU.
If you still have a problem, than you have trouble with CPU.

NFORCE3-A CPU fan & LED come on, nothing else, no beep or video

If the RAM is incompatible with your board then yes it would not allow a boot. Make sure your front panel power wire is plugged into the proper spot on the motherboard and retry. If it's the RAM then you will still have the problem. If it was the wire loose or in wrong spot then it should work. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Motherboard startup problem!!

If your video is running off the card then remove the cable and plug it into onboard vga. Then remove the card from the slot. That should solve it then you will need to reinstall drivers for video card. If your monitor is running from onboard video then you will need to remove the card then try turning it on.

E machine no power

Make sure the RAM is seated, the CPU, any video card and the Power supply is properly connected.

If you power it on, still get no POST (beep at startup from the PC speakers) its time to replace the motherboard.

Can not get any boot at all

Hi, First of all, your hard drive is what this computer needs to boot up. Try to see if you can POST, that is, only plug in power supply to motherboard with cpu and memory in there. Don't put any hard drive or other device into motherboard as yet. see if it reaches past post. If it does, then plug in hard drive and see if the problem occurs again. If it does, then the problem is the hard drive. But for now try reaching past post with only the bare necessary components for startup. Then let me know what happens.
