Acer wont power on


I have a acer travelmate 2451 and I can not get it to power up.
I took the battery out then unplugged the computer then pushed the power button for 30 seconds. plug computer back in pushed the powere button like I was told to do but it will not power on, it does not show windows. No light just bank screen.

    Do any lights come on at all to indicate there is power coming into your notebook?

That sounds like a power ribbon issue to me as well. I would suggest you get a certified technician to look at it unless you are knowledgeable with computer parts.

If the computer doesn't power on what-so-ever, it may be your power ribbon. I have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 15.

The power ribbon on your motherboard connects to the power button on your laptop which obviously turns on your computer.

That may have been damaged. I suggest taking apart your computer and trying to find out the issue from the inside. (Or, if you don't know how turn it in to a technician.)

Can you plug a external monitor into the machine, most laptops have that serial port. If montor comes on, you have bad display or connections, If not you have problems with laptop....Good luck

The power button may not work, that is most common in laptops, or you have a short.

Well I have the same problem, I think it is a BIOS problem because after the acer screen it says Windows did not start succesfully. I saw start Windows normally but it has that "blink of an eye flash" as well, then it goes back and tries to boot up again. Maybe take it to a shop to get fixed.

Hi,

You could try to do a system restore to a date near to purchase. It is normally under start --> accessories --> system tools. Backup all your data before doing a system restore!!

remove the battery then try to turn on the laptop. if this works you probably have a bad/shorted battery

I think your battery or your whole motherboard is fried. Does it make any noises? Do the fans start to run? Try unplugging your battery and only keeping your charger in.

If the battery is dead, you will need to replace the battery if you plan on going portable. Yes you can use your laptop with the power adapter without the battery installed or on. You need to treat this as it was a home computer with a power cord, and becareful not unplugging it until system has fully shut down to avoid surge, short circuit.

Sorry to tell you this but you may have a problem with the charging system. That will require you to return it to Acer or an Acer service center. You can also try this. I got this from Acers' travelmate support website:

If the notebook does not power on:

Make sure the ac adapter is correctly plugged into the notebook and into the power cord.

If everything is plugged in correctly and it still will not power on, follow these steps to complete a ‘power reset' of the notebook.
  1. Unplug the ac adapter. Keep ac adapter unplugged.
  2. Remove the battery and keep the battery unplugged.
  3. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds. (Nothing will appear on the display and none of the lights will light up.)
  4. Release the power button and plug in the ac adapter ONLY. (Please note that a power indicator light should be lit on the ac adapter when it is plugged in).
  5. Normally power on the notebook.
  6. If the unit does not power on, remove the ac adapter and insert the battery into the system.
  7. Plug the ac adapter back into the system, the battery charging indicator light will light up.
    If the battery charging indicator light does not light up, the ac adapter may not be providing proper power to the unit, and may need to be replaced.
You can aslo google your specific model of Travelmate to see if others are having this issue.

Acer travelmate does not battery charge but pwr jack, battery ok
First power drain your system take the battery out unplug the acadapter and then push the power button on the laptop and keep it pressed for 2 mins without connecting any power souce this will drain the static power from the syteme after few mins connect the battery first and then connect the ac adapter that should take care of the issue.

You might of fried the whole motherboard when it sparked. Check if there is a fuse. Bridge the gap, and it should turn on. If not PULL THE PLUG.its something else that went wrong.If you don't, it smells really bad. Ive learn't from experience...
