The main problem with the Pavilion dv6700, which is part of the Pavilion dv6000 series of Notebook PC's, is that all the indicator lights come up, but there are no graphics being shown on the LCD screen. The screen is black.
This is due to a graphics chipset problem, caused by a poor cooling design of HP designers.
The graphics chipset (GPU. Graphics Processing Unit), is mounted to the motherboard in a BGA surface mount.
Instead of pins coming off of the bottom of the chipset, as on the older Processors, there are Solder Balls.
The motherboard has tiny copper pads that line up to the solder balls. The graphics chipset is set into place, then heat is used to melt the solder balls, and attach the graphics chipset to the motherboard.
Due to the poor cooling design, the graphics chipset overheats, and the solder connections are partially melted. The graphics chip now has a poor contact to the motherboard.
