My laptop y410 is getting switched off all of sudden while running, it happens any time like within 1 hr, 2 hr or any time . kindly suggest if it is a software issue or hardware issue.

Hi There and Welcome to FixYa!

Seems like you're having an intermittent "shut down" issues with your Y410. One thing that I recommend for you to determine if this is a Software or Hardware issue is to try and see if the problem occurs when in BIOS screen.

Here's how to get to the BIOS screen :
  • Shut down your computer
  • Restart it and tap on "F2" key repeatedly
  • BIOS will start
Leave your computer for say, an hour or so and see if the problem would occur. If it does, then I strongly recommend that you take this computer to the nearest repair center to get it fixed.

Similarly, if the problem did not materialize in BIOS, then all you need to do is to back up your important files and reload your Operating system in order to correct the problem.

I hope this helps, Thank you for using Fixya

My CD ROM is not work how can i format or any other way to format

Hi sonamwangchu,

There is a way that you can format your Lenovo 3000 Y410's system easily. And indeed this may help you address the issue of your CD ROM. With Lenovo's laptops there is a One Key Recovery button that you can use in putting back your system to it's factory settings. This will reload your operating system as well *** all the drivers for your laptop.Follow the step by step procedure below:

Reminder: Make sure to create backup copy of all your important files the before starting the process. Doing this will wipe out all your files.

Here's how:

1. Turn off the computer.
2. Press the OKR button on your laptop (It's near your power button and it has an inverted arrow on the top of it), thiw will automatically turn your PC on. Your screen will display Windows Loading Files.
3. Then, you will be directed on a page that says Lenovo One Key Rescue System.
4. Choose One Key Recovery.
5. Afterwards choose Restore from initial backup.
6.Wait until the system is done restoring your system. Finally, once the process is done, reboot the system.

Your system will now be back on it's original settings. You can start using your CD ROM again, this should fix the issue.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Web cam not working..

sounds like maybe another program, something that starts automatically is trying to use the camera, or the drivers have become corrupted.

Try checking all start up programs to make sure nothing is starting and automatically grabbing the camera. Generally only one program can use the camera at a time, so this might be the case.

If you can't find anything, try reinstalling the camera but removing the drivers and reinstalling them.

Sound goes on & off on lenovo Y410 laptop

Next time it goes off, have a look to see if you have a service/process called Windows Audio running. Click Start & type "services.msc" in the search box (presuming you are using vista), then just press enter.
Look for "Windows Audio" & "Windows Audio Endpoint Builder".
Make sure they are running/started & set to automatic.

The problem could be a driver that did not install properly, a codec that did not install properly or a Windows update that did not install properly.

Lenovo Y410 gets switch off while usage !!!

Sounds to me that you have an overheating problem. Can you hear the fan come on? Can you feel the hot air being pusheed away from the computer? Have you got it sitting on something soft like a bed or pillow or something which is stopping the intake of fresh air?
