Schwinn S180 won't charge

I just got a real deal on a Schwinn S180 off Craigslist. $50... At least until I got it home and it won't charge. The charger says red light means dead, yellow light means 80% charged, green light means charged. Well, it's been red for 3 days now... When I unplug it, turn the scooter on and try the throttle (I guess it's the throttle, on the left handlebar!) I get nothing...

So, what is the first suspect? The charger? Or the batteries? The previous owner said his kids rode the thing up and down his country driveway 100's of times until they just put it up about a year ago and it's set in a barn since that time.

Have exactly the same problem. Bought a used S180 and it does charge, yet will not shut off red light, and has power to wheel only when off the ground. So do not think it is charging fully. Have not done any work except to check all the connection.

I have a simular problem, and strange enough, I got two bikes off craigslist for 100.00. I put new batteries in both. The charger light gets green, but the bikes ack like they have very little torque. Should'nt they be able to pull a 200 lb person up a small incline? Is there a way to check the condition of the 180 watt motors?
I have read how these scooters have good torque. Any suggestions?

NashvilleDan, this scooter has 2 12v 10 amp batteries in series, you should read over 24 volts at the charging hub if the batteries are good. I would think that if the scooter sat for over a year you have bad batteries, They can be purchased at battery plus.

I understand that lead acid batteries do not do well if you deep discharge them.....probably a wrong choice for a scooter like this...need new batteries, would be my guess...just my $.02.

Install battery

First make sure the scooter is off.
Unscrew and take off the deck
Unplug and remove the old battery pack
Put the new battery pack in and plug it in, using the same connection as the old batteries pack.
Screw the deck on and your done!
Oh, and make sure you give the battery a good charge(the full charging time). The first charge of a battery is the most important one.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of battery a schwinn electric scooter takes it is a s-180

Hi there,

Your scooter uses dual 12-volt, 10-amp hour sealed recyclable lead acid battery.

You may want to open below link to see some examples of batteries suitable to your scooter.

I charged the battery up on schwinn 180 still want go

Its likely that you just need a new battery. Batteries that are used seasonally have a shorter lifespand, especially if they are stored without being fully charged. You can find a replacement at http://www.batteryinternational.com/electric-scooter-batteries-schwinn-s180.html
