Drain doesn't seem to work. If there is water in the machine when you start it up, it just sits there humming slightly. If you drain all the water it starts refilling- but still pump won't drain it. I've cleaned the filter etc. and removed the pump, which works fine out of the machine. What can I try next?

Well, I asked too soon. Found a schematic showing there are 2 pumps...!! The second one had a little piece of wire stuck in it. It works fine now. Thanks for helping.

Clean the soap out of the dispensers so that none is in the machine. Keep cycling the machine till the excess soap is gone.

Hello. If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out. To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port. Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

Fisher&paykel ,smart drive excellence 7 .5 ,the washing machine stopped working during the pumping out of the water.no power on the top panel and a slight humming noise

What is it? No power to panel or slight humming sound which indicated there is power? Can't be both. I would suggest that the humming sound if you put it on spin, will be the drain pump trying to go. If pump is left humming like that it will get hot & shut the power off until it cools down again. Pump hums when it has a blockage & can'y spin. Clear the blockage.

Washer hums but will not fill or start/ spin has water pressure and tub seems to move freely the model #on tag LTF2140ES0

If it doesn't fill it won't start any other cycle unless you move it ahead yourself. If it hums I am thinking it is trying to fill. Sounds like the valve is turning on to let water in but it is not getting through. My washer has a screen where the hoses go on and sometimes the screen becomes plugging with scale. If that is ok then the solenoid must be coming on but the valve is stuck. Does neither hot or cold settings work? Please rate my answer so I am rewarded points for it.

Maytag, model MDB7100AWB, acts spuratic!? 4 days ago it hummed most fo the evening, I just thought it was the fridge. There was water sitting in the bottom when I opened the door - and the humming...

probably the drain pump, access is underneath and to the right of pump housing, the drain hose connects to main housing and the drain motor is right and just behind where hose connects. open door part way for easier access. and use shop vac to remove as much water as possible, then have 2 or 3 bath towels to clean up if you try on your own. local parts house will have drain pump if you take model # with you

Will not spin water out for a GWL5 model by Fisher & Paykel. Slight humming noise.

Hi jarrodmitche,

Before the Spin Cycle should start, all water must be drained out of the machine. If it does not start, it could likely mean the Drain pump may be clogged. Please follow my below tip on the fix:

ACCESS, DRAIN & CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER...

If this does not help, the drain pump may be faulty.

Kind Regards

Kenmore Washing Machine won't agitate, spin, or drain

It sounds like the motor needs to be replaced, you can drain the water by taking the drain hose from the drain and lowering down water will drain.

Washer will hum and will not drain water out!

You will have to either look under the machine or take the back off.
You will see the big motor which does the washing.
You will also see a small motor which drains the machine.
Disconnect the power supply and remove the pipes from the small motor.
It could be blocked up from congealed washing powder.
Or something may have blocked the pipe from the drum to the drain motor.
If it all looks ok and still doesn`t work, then the motor has siezed.
Very easy to replace
good luck

DRAIN PROBLEM

Here's some things to check: The electric water pump on those machines can be stopped by objects that get under the machine- The pump has a "fan" on it, and I have seen numerous times where a sheet of fabric softener like "BOUNCE" will get sucked into the pump's fan and "strangle" it.
Follow these instructions: Starting with the machine OFF, take one finger and depress the water temperature adjustment button for DECREASE (arrow points DOWN) and hold it down, and while holding it down, turn the machine on by pressing the power button.
If you did it right, you should hear two quick BEEPS. Now release the buttons. This sets the machine in "technician mode"
Now press the REGULAR button (the cycle selector button for a REGULAR wash cycle)
You should hear the water pump start and the water should be going out the drain hose. If you hear a slight "HUM" then the water pump is jammed with either an object inside the tub or the aforementioned sheet of bounce or whatever. If you hear the pump start but the water seems to be recirculating back into the tub, then something is either caught in the machine's DIVERTER VALVE or the valve is physically broken. In rare instances, the machine control has a short and is powering up the diverter valve all the time rather than only when it is supposed to...

Won't drain

The humming could be coming from the drain pump which may be jammed. The machine will not spin unless all the water has been drained out. If there is still water in the drum, remove the drain hose from where it attatches under the sink or tub and lie it down. Let water drain into a bucket untill the machine is empty. Switch off the machine and unplug it from the wall. Remove the hose that connects the tub to the drain pump from the drain pump and see if there is any obvious obstruction. If you can see the pump impellar, try turning it with your finger. If impellar does not turn freely, replace drain pump.
