The usual reason a dryer will heat yet not dry the clothes is going to be a air flow problem. What ya need to check is for a blocked vent and or lint build up in the blower assambly.
By far though a leading cause of that on Maytag dryers is a broken blower wheel and therefore no warm air is being drawnthrough the clothes,to check that remove the front panel and the front drum support and in the lower left corner will be the blower asm. check to see if it moves free and doesnt seem to be attached to the motor shaft.
There are a few things that come to mind why your dryer may not start:
-Check to make sure there is power going to the dryer
-Check that the door switch is working
-The motor may have overheated
-There may be an electrical fault or loose wire
-If the motor turns but the drum doesn't, check that the belt is still on the drum.
For some of these checks you may have to remove the control panel or the front panel.
Depending on your skills and experience you may want to have some of these checks done by a qualified professional due to the danger of live electricity.
Bad Heating Element Most clothing dryers heat up and dry clothes with a heating element inside the appliance's body. Maytag dryers are no different and sometimes these heating elements break down or burn out, making the dryer cease to get hot. Make sure the dryer is unplugged and the breakers that run the dryer are switched off before inspecting so you don't electrocute yourself. The heating element is in the bottom panel of the dryer and is often a silver part which heats up when the dryer is on. Sometimes the heating element will be cracked or burned out, which means it is broken. Other times it won't look damaged but may not be working. Replace the heating element if this occurs, to see if this is the main problem. Broken Motor Maytag dryers have motors which turn the dryer drum, tossing the clothes so that air and heat can help dry them out completely. When the dryer drum is not turning it means there is something wrong with the motor or that the motor is not getting power. Unplug the dryer and take it apart to inspect the motor. Once you have found the motor, plug the dryer back in and use a meter to see if the motor is getting power. If it is, and isn't working, then there is something wrong with the motor and how it is operating. If the motor isn't getting power, then there is something wrong with the circuits or fuses which disperse power to the motor itself. Bad Switch When Maytag dryers won't tumble or heat the clothes which have been put inside of them, this means there could be a number of different things wrong. However, sometimes there's a simple solution to this problem: The switch on the door of the dryer itself may be faulty or not making the electric connection it should to allow the dryer to run. This is a cheap fix and worth troubleshooting before tearing your Maytag dryer apart. Remove the switch and inspect the two leads to make sure they haven't broken or are still transferring electricity. If they aren't you will have to replace the switch
Yes it will probably be the belt that has snapped, afraid they can be quite a job to replace as you have to take the drum out of the appliance to get the new belt around the drum. Although it also could be your motor if this has failed it may make a nois but not have th power to turn the drum.
You can open the appliance up by using flat head screwdriver at either end of the lid pushing it into the gap between the frame and the lid and prising it upwards and the top will pop up and you will then be able to see if the belt has snapped
While you have the drum out check the motor to see if it runs. It could be you have a faulty motor.
If the motor is running then you may have a faulty timer or start switch
Good luck,
I hope this helps
Hello, I will assume this is a electric dryer where the drum turns but no heat, your problem most likely is the centrifigal switch. this is built into the motor. Basically its operation is to not switch the heater on unless the motor is turning. By the sound of things you are compitent with electrical side of appliances. Remove the wire harness for the motor. Make up a wire bypass using 2 male connectors and some heavy duty wire. plug each end of this bypass into the wire harness where you see the 2 thick wires. Next making sure the harness is not touching anything metal plug her in and hit the start button, check to see if the heater starts to glow or you can smell it heating up...if it does heat up your going to need to change the motor. If this is not your problem please don't down rate me, feel free to comment again and I will give you further help. Mike
Without seeing it, and very little info to go on, let me ask this, does the drum turn?
If there is no heat, go outside and check the exhaust, do you feel air blowing out?
If you do, then the heating element may be bad or the switch that sends power to the element may be bad. If no air blowing out, then I do not know any further. At any rate, a service man must come.
