Time to replace the battery. 1.5 to about 2 years is typical life for most laptop batteries. You can extend that but most people typically don't get more than 2 years.
You should do a search for the battery online as you can save a ton by shopping around. For example I have a Toshiba laptop I need a new battery and was shopping around. From Toshiba the battery is $202 from several other places it was $35 and up with a 3 year warranty. The cheapest place was AMAZO...com something sounded like that river in south america you know the Amazon. Not that I'm recommending anyplace. You can find local places that may be close to that price so that can save on shipping.

On the front of the computer is a switch to turn the internal wireless on and off. It may have gotten turned off. This user guide from the HP site shows the switch location (look at page 10).
ohh hp pavillion have 2 year warranty on the motherboard, but dont do it yourself, just call the customer care and ask them to resolve the issue, as system is still in warranty period, dont void the warranty yourself
Please visit http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us and follow the steps. Contact HP and see if you model is on the affected list, as it could be eligible for a free motherboard replacement (2 years after warranty expires) to resolve the defective video card issue. If they say no, check out www.hplies.com for other useful information regarding this Globally known issue with nVidia and HP. Pay close attention about steps to take when dealing with an HP Case Manager.
You can order a power cable online or pick one up at your local computer store. They should run between $80-150. The battery itself is very expensive to purchase but is rechargeable.
You can try a few small things you could try like reseating the memory and booting without the battery, but MAJORITY of the time it's the motherboard with HP's DV series laptops.
Now's a nice time to check your warranty status here:
if the computer doesn't beep at all, and noting comes on the screen.
Lets do this first,
Remote the ram from the computer, start up without ram.
turn the laptop off and unplug, did you hear beeps?
Place the other memory module back in and try starting up.
if the computer starts up then all is ok you can plug in the other ram and start up again. if it doesn't start up then repeat the previous process.
if this has no effect and you don't get any beeps from the computer the motherboard most likely has a problem.
I would suggest you call hp or your dealer to check your warranty.
If you are outside of warranty the repairs will cost you.
