Optical mouse from inside: http://www.gadgetrivia.com/photos/o/56422-best_optical_mouse.jpg (this isn't a retractable mouse, but the inside looks exactly the same, only the cord this different which doesn't matter in this situation).
Here are instructions for optical mouse repair: http://www.thenetguruz.com/hardware/diy-optical-mouse-repair/
But if your mouse doesn't work first plug the mouse in the USB slot and check the laser beam under the mouse - if there is no light, the mouse is dead, and you should return it to the seller for replacement. (Such a thin cable of the mouse is very vulnerable and might break easily. More over I find many negative reviews about this rectractable mouse - so if your seller offers to replace it - ask for a different model or test it with your laptop right in the shop before bringing it home.)
2) Here is a solution that already worked for another user, but was very complicated: http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads/USB-mouse-not-recognized-drivers-can-t-be-installed/m-p/23526
3) Or alternatively download and install a free driver updater software, e.g. http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/index.htm - let it scan and update all your missing drivers - it may fix USB general problems if this causes also the mouse problems.

P.S. If this helped you to solve the problem (or at least brought some clarification) - rate this solution with 4 thumbs up! But before you would give a negative rating - post a comment, so I could improve my solution to satisfy your needs. Thank you!

I need a wiring diagram for a Targus PAUMO1

Not worth it!
One wrong wire could burn out multiple USB ports on your computer (or any computer the device is plugged into).
It would be best to get a new or used mouse.

Am trying to fix my retractable mouse. do you have any diagram showing how the insides of the retractable mechanism looks like.thanks!

No pix or diagram, but you'll see a coil spring that provides the retracting function, plus one very small ball bearing that provides the holding function. The ball bearing sits on a dimple in the case and "lodges" itself in a groove in the top plate, so that whenever you rotate the case all the way around once, the ball bearing falls into the dimple and locks the two pieces together until you yank the cord. The cord just wraps around the case and there is enough friction between the cord and the case that as you pull/slide the cord, it winds the spring.

What happens most of the time is that the case/plate slips apart and the tension comes off, and/or the ball bearing drops out.

I took the plate off the case (a small phillips screw), rewound the spring a couple of turns, rewrapped the cable, very carefully put the ball bearing in the groove, and put the screw back in. It was difficult, and you should do it with tacky paper on your work surface because I dropped the ball bearing quite a few times.

Earlier in this column, someone said send it back in for warranty. almost worth it to do that, because the small pieces can be frustrating to deal with.

Gigaware new optical notebook mouse, read all the comments, been there, done/tried that... laptop keeps asking for driver... inf errors? Odd my gigaware OLD retractable mouse (on fritz) when I can get the...

omg you buy crapp from RS. why?
to go walfart see that mouse shelf there, buy one.
end the pain.

btw1: we are not HP. !!!

here is your support page , this is HP.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/Compaq-Presario-F700-Notebook-PC-series/3548233

do not buy wireless, unless dead batteries in them sounds like fun... is it? nahh.....
also the mouse must be paired with the original usb dongle "gigaware, device, matched. do not mix parts here, ever.

NO OS STATED,. is this ****** rotten XP?
XP, VISTA ,W7, W8, W10?????
in all cases when you plug in a new mouse the pc must be connected to the internet, if not the new USB driver for the mouse will not be available, can it? no. (i bet in the store they had no wifi for you or router wired connections did they)

PnP, plug and pray.:
luck happens (rare) it's in the windows, cab library
but most times that will fail hard, for sure on any stinking XP box. (how can XP from 2001 know how to run a 2017 mouse, that be impossible , no?)
I dont think MS supports RS devices at all btw.

most new things now , like a new mouse
come with no CD, driver in the box. nor instructions
this is for GREEN reasons, dig?

and they have a slip of paper there tiny
says get drier here, at our mouse web site and a url.
dig? but I see SR no longer support this mouse.
at RS dot com. did you even look first?

My guess, is you are NOT internet connected as you plug in one mouse do not have 2 plugged in at the same time, your retractable is now defective, for get it.
the wires in it are bad, you can fix it i bet.
I can but would not waste my time for $5 .

if you go to goodwill store get like 3 mice there
for $5 total, all will work if and if connected to the internet.

this magic is called PnP plug and play
with no internet PNP is dead.
and super dead if RS devices,,,,
Go to MS.dot com, look up WHQL certified drivers from RS. (nada)

this is the NEW WORLD now.

your PC came with VISTA, so says HP.
is it still VISTA?

I will address all mice issues here, in one post.
i read your pC spec for you
it has touch pad mouse by,
Synaptics Touchpad driver

if you run that at the same time as any USB mouse
they will get in to a loggers head fight.
the cure is simple.
turn off the mouse not used, you must.

or it WILL FAIL>
this is true on all PCs with a touch pad (and 2 mice)
on newer PCs we click touch page mouse tab in control panel and turn it off
then use the usb mouse. (avoid wireless mice)
if you love wireless, then why not own a real mouse.
wired, so you can have solution everytime RS takes a dump here.

on older PCs there is no tab for that. yah suxs, no?
so we must use CONTROL panel and then
device manager and go to touch pad ICON and click DISABLE there. (the touch pad is now dead)

my newer touchpad driver has an autodetect , feature
and if on, it sees me having a USB mouse and kills the touch pad every time i boot it. (fancy no?)
Btw I hate touch pads, so know the ropes,.. here.

so there are 2 issues,
cant find a usb mouse driver,
if you told the mouses brand and model number you get the driver sent you for free, or a mfg, link
issue 2 , having 2 mice enables is a hopeless case.

that covers it all but , ill do more next.

Canon sliding lens cover door

I have been having the same problem. Once opened, the sliding door will not close and the lens won't retract. But I have found that if you plug the camera into a computer via a USB, the lens then retracts enabling you to close the lens cover.
I'm still trying to find a way to fix this problem, since this is a great camers and still takes fantastic pictures.
