Pixma ip500 error message 5C00 - what does it mean?

I have a Canon Pixma ip 5000 and have started getting an error message 5C00 asking me to switch off printer and then switch it on again.
What does the error message mean and what is wrong with the printer

I have the same message and print haed does not move at all.
I will pay for it to be fixed next week (after Easter) and let you know the cause.

Working now!

All I did was get a can of contact cleaner (CO Contact Cleaner)

about 20 bucks a can and tilted the printer backwards and sprayed under the printhead where I thought the pins were and hey presto! fully functional printer again. Woo-Hoo

Probably not. It is likely that the gear train has dropped out of sequence, and that is extremely difficult to reset.

Error code 5C00 means purge unit is broken, yo have to replace the purge.

I am getting an error message that says 5C00

The 5C00 code is for purge cam sensor error meaning an error occurred in the purge unit. You can remove the purge assembly and clean out all the ink covering the moving parts. You can clean it with isopropyl alcohol or just water. If no luck, replace the purge unit, will be around $30. This is the part number, if you need to replace it: Purge unit (QM2-2925).

Canon ix4000 error 5c00

Error code 5C00 means purge unit is broken. You need to bring the printer to the service center to get broken purge unit replace. I hope this short information help you. Thanks.

Error code says 5c00 on my canon pixma mp500 printer. cant find my manual to figure out what the code means

The error code 5c00 usually means that there is a paper jam or paper path restriction.
If the path is not restricted, the printer will need servicing.
