My troy-bilt 70ss trimmer head and or attachments stopped spinning. This is the third troy-bilt trimmer with this problem I have already exchanged two other trimmers within the first 30 days of purchase. This one lasted about 10 uses and now it stopped spinning. Troy-bilt is junk! I do not recommend that anyone buys one.

Considering your experience, if I was in your position I would locate the cause of the persistent failure and contact the manufacturer who might be suitably grateful.
I did that once with an inspection light that was bought in from China and brand engineered, as many goods are today, and I received a voucher and the company stopped buying that model. While it didn't help me much it would have helped others.

I am not familiar with the Troy-bilt brand which must be an exclusively US brand. I have used a MAC-60A for 30 years without many problems, a model reckoned by repairers to be a short-lived cheap consumer model.

SOURCE: put string on tb425cs troy bilt trimmer

there are two ways to install the string..the cool way is without pulling the inner reel off the trimmer..just leave it in place..cut (2) approx.two arms length (thats spreading your arms out like airplane wings) of .095 string..now, align the arrow of the inner reel (it turns counter clock-wise..the arrow points outward) with the arrow on the outer spool (pointing inward)..holding the spool and reel together so the inner reel doesnt move, push one of the cut strings through the eyehole in the side of the outer spool, and it should come up to the right, through a slot next to a small round hole the diameter of the string..if it doesnt, it just missed the exit (as i call it)..pull out and try again..let about an inch come thru..now take that end of the string and push the line into the little round hole until it stops, which should be about a little more than 1/8 of an inch..hold it in while pulling the excess line outside the spool to keep it in place..now do the same with the other string for the other side..once you have both lines in place, turn the inner reel counter clock-wise to draw in both lines through the eyeholes of the outer spool..you may or may not get all of the line to wind in..not a problem..you will still have enough to do what you need to do..just cut off the rest..one problem you may or may not have that i do most of the tyme is that it gets hard to turn the inner reel..one solution is to bump the top of the 'bump knob' with your fist, then pull both strings at the same tyme, then continue to turn..this method is quicker and easier than the second way of having the inner reel out and trying to wind both lines at the same tyme and trying to place the reel back in the spool..hope this works for you...

SOURCE: Troy Bilt Trimmer 75SS stalls at full throttle. new gas

Hello. Let me assist you. Since your trimmer runs but stalls at ful throttle it is telling you that there is a fuel problem. Not enough gas is getting through the carbeurator to satisfy the engines needs on full throttle. Most likely the carbeurator is gummed up. A common problem. Let's see if we can un gum it by getting a can or carbeurtor cleaner. Go to any auto parts store and talk to the clerk about your need.

SOURCE: How to replace air filter on Troy-bilt TB20CS?

May be air filter but sounds more like your muffler is stopped up. First take the muffler off and see if it runs better without it. If so, burn the carbon out of the muffler and clean the muffler port on the engine. If not, then remove the four screw at the very end and disassemble. The ait filter is in that area. SOURCE: Cannot disassemble Troy-bilt trimmer head

There is a round, rotary black part between the metal piece to which the cutting head attaches and the outer plastic seat of the cutting head. There are two square slots, each about a quarter inch wide, on opposites sides of the black piece. Slide an Allen wrench or something similar firmly into the slot. Holding the Allen wrench in a stable position, turn the outer plastic ring of the cutting head (it has scalloped edges that can be gripped firmly) counter clockwise to unscrew the cutting head from the bolt on which it is mounted. Be careful with the tool (e.g. Allen wrench) used to hold the black piece steady, as it is plastic and could be damaged by the edge of the tool.

Troy Bilt TB575EC cutting head hard to load, now doesn't spin.

Remove the cutting head spool and see if you have old grass stuck around the shaft area that could be causing to cease your shaft..

The head will not spin on Troy Built weed eatter

sounds like your flex cable has taken a trip south. Pull the shaft off the head and take a look at the flex cable. If flex cable is ok, they your clutch is defective.

Too Much String from my Troy Bilt

The majority of the time excessive string feed is caused by one or a combination of one or more of the following:

String wound backwards. Seems simple enough, but happens to the best of us.
Missing or improper spring.
Lubrication ANYWHERE on the shaft or inside the bump head assembly. This item should be clean and dry..but never lubricated.

If you know the model number on your particular trimmer, that would assist in troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.

Troy-Bilt Trimmer TB425CS

Sound like the clutch is going out or already is bad. There should be a cone shape cover that attaches the engine to the handle. Usually with 4 screws. Take those screws out and seperate the housing. There is a small centrifugal clutch, which is probably bad.
