Freezer was working normally but the fridge just seemed to never get cold. Wife had recently exploded a soda can in the firdge so she needed to open the door for extended time to clean it out. after that fridge would not get cold
I have a Frigidaire that recently stopped cooling in the fridge but the freezer was fine. This happened on 4-23-2010. I called Sears and of course my $2000 fridge is no longer under warranty. I took off the back, bottom vent cover and noticed my compressor seemed to be warm and working and since my freezer was cooling I assumed that was fine. The condenser fan was spinning so I figured that was also fine. I did notice the vent in the fridge where the cool air is suppose to come out was not working. Even if I turned the fridge temp. way down no cool air would come through the vent. Upon doing some Google searches I found there is a fan hidden in back of the freezer (on the inside) behind a panel held in by 4 screws. I removed the panel and sure enough, the fan was there and not working. I pulled the part number off of it and called a local appliance parts store. It cost me $44 and literally took me 2 mins. to install the fan and about 10 mins to replace the back panel and put the two freezer drawers back in. I am sure Sears would of charged me at least $250 and I had to wait for a week for them to show up. I learned that the fridge is cooled by the freezer and it simply blows air through a small shaft up into the freezer. So if you have no cool air coming through your vent in the fridge but your freezer is working then most likely it is the "evaporator fan" and if you own a screw driver and have about 25 mins. it can be an easy fix. Just Google your exact fridge, find out where the evaporator fan is located for your model. Determine if the fan is running or not and if it isn't remove it. It's usually only connected with to wires (hot and common). Then start calling parts dealers in your area and once you find the part it's as simple as installing it, plugging in two wires, and you're back in business. If the evaporator fan is running and no cool air is coming out the fridge vent then the shaft for the cool air may be clogged with ice and need to be defrosted. I have heard a hair dryer can speed up the process. Good luck! [email protected]
First leave it off for 24 hours, and then put it back in operation. if its doing it again , then chck the heating element, defrost timer...
