Yellow attachment to flapper in Cadet 3 toilet tank

What is the yellow float like device attached to the flapper in the American Standard Cadet 3 toilet tank? Purchased from Home Depot. We noticed that some but not all tanks had the yellow device. So we selected one with the yellow thinking it was missing on the other tanks. Seems to get stuck under the flap though during flushing - so we're wondering about its usefulness?

Some toilet flappers are designed with this some are not. It has to do with the particular flapper design, helping the flapper to stay in the open position to allow a better flush. Anyways you should be to adjust this float up or down to optimize it's usefulness. Trial and error is all you can do, keep watching and flushing until it no longer gets in the way. I hope this helps in at least knowing that for your toilet and the flapper you have, it's suppose to be there. Good luck and thanks for using FIXYA and have a great weekend. Jeff

Relace flush valve seal

The American Standard Cadet 3 flowise one piece toilet uses a flapper valve with a soft nylon washer to seal against the water outlet.
Over time this nylon washer develops 'puckers' causing water to seep between the nylon washer and the seat of the flapper. This seepage causes the water level in the tank to drop to a point where the water inlet valve opens to replace the lost water in the tank.
There are two ways to correct this problem:
1. Replace the soft nylon washer on the flapper, or
2. Replace the entire flapper valve.
Hope this solution helps.

American standard caded 3 leaking water from tank into toilet and occasionally running every 5 minutes. is this a flapper problem (it seems well seated) or could it be leaking elswhere?

It could be a bad seat around the flapper or the flapper itself. Replace flapper with one designed for the Cadet. Check water level and see it doesn't flow above the overflow tube. if it is above the tube lower the float ball by turning the screw at top of ball.

I have a american standard toilet mode 4112 that keeps running.....any suggestions on how to fix it?

The flapper ball may be contaminated and not sealing or the float level has changed and needs adjustment. You should be able to see if the overflow has water flowing into it continuously.

The water keeps running. the yellow whatever you call it attached to the flapper get caught under the flapper

What is getting caught unger the flapper?
If your referring the chain that pulls the flapper up when you engage the level, that can be easy fixed by shortening/removing the links from the chain.
You can also remove the flapper and clean the hard water residue so it can create a proper seal.
Once your finished you can perform a test to ensure no more water is making it through when the flapper is sealed.
Flush the toilet, watch for the flapper to close. Once closed drop a couple drops of blue food coloring into the tank and /sigh.... Wait to see if you see it coming out into the toilet bowl. Check back in a half an hour. If no blue... Good job.
Hope this helps.

My Cadet 3 toilet worked fine for a year. A plumber fixed a leak at the intake line. Since he left the bowl does not fill with enough water. This causes water to splash when I flush. The flapper has a...

This is diagram of a typical toilet tank setup if the refill tube is not putting water into the flush valve as pictured the toilet will do what you have described.

I have just installed a cadet3 flowise 4.8l 3378513.020 toilet and the small yellow float has stuck under the flapper so the water keeps running - Is this a flaw?

No that flaw it is just not adjusted right. All that you need to do is adjust the chain so the float can not get under the flapper. To do this remove the hook from the flush handel. Once that is done adjust the chain by moving the hook down the chain a couple of links or un till you have about 2 links of slack.

Good Luck

Water disappears to below the bowl inlet and stop.

adjust the float up to make water deeper....make sure no obstructions around the flapper....flapper needs to rest tight to bottom of inside the tank..flapper is the rubber peice that lifts when you push handle
