If you cant play a real dvd in it, the laser is prob out of allignment or broken, if its just dvd that you burned, try changing disc type, there is +R and -R , also if that does not work try a different program to burn discs ? good program is convert X to dvd, not free, unless your good at torrents :)

I have Lenovo Ideapad S10-3s. I have changed the OS to WinXP SP3 from the earlier Win7 Starter. The whole thing is working fine. My External DVD burner i.e., Lenovo GP20N (suitable for Ideapad S10-3s) also...

Hi wsmurty,

I see that you are having issues regarding your External DVD drive, you also mentioned that the Operating system was down graded to WinXP SP3 from Win7 Starter.

If this only happen just a day ago or possibly just hours ago you can try doing a system restore on the machine, restore to an earlier date at least a day or two from the day that the DVD drive was not dected on the machine. if this does not work then try the steps below.
Check Device manager to see if there are any drivers that you may have missed out for the Lenovo System.
Possible Drivers that can cause your USB's not to detect the External DVD drive will be the chipset drivers.
Second Driver is the driver for your External DVD drive see if it is up to date or possible that it may needs updating on the case.
Is the External DVD detected in My Computer? If it is then Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for your External DVD drive can be done just to check then update the driver for it if possible from the manufacturers website.

Acer 4520 cd/dvd driver problem

Try to use another DVD. you told you tried you old DVD from your toshiba. maybe is not compatible.. try in another.. then use your DVD in another laptop if the same from problem.check your board and DVD connection...if this under warranty bring to warranty..

if in Bios also can not detect this is hardware problem...

I have cobo drive, drive can read and write DVD's but not CD's

Hi there. You may need to re-install your drives.

Open Device Manager, click the + sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on the drive and choose Uninstall Driver. Shut down your system, and restart. When Windows starts it will detect the new hardware and install the software for it.

Also, try uninstalling your burning software, restart, and re-install. It may be that the software has got corrupt.

Not reading dvd combo drive

You need to check if somehow you enabled a zone protection ,,,
Also try to
1.clean the lens
2.Reinstal drivers (find them in my computer right click properties device manager)
3. Use some other burning softvare i sugest Ashampoo burning studio...

hmmm...go to control panel and 'see' if you can detect that item through operating system..system/device manager will show you if the drive is 'active' or not..

DVD/CD combo only reads DVDs

The virus and the Disck drive problem are not related. The disk drive has two lasers- one for CD one for DVD- one of the appears to have failed. Get hold of a CD drive cleaner. - this is a disk with a little brush on the underside and a bottle of fluid. try thats first. If that does not work then it is a new drive- unless you are happy to read only DVD's

Hi there, this could be windows system glitch. please follow troubleshooting steps below

Click Start , and then click All Programs.
Click Accessories, and then click Run.
Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.
