For the FAV6800A or FAV9800A:

If you have no water flow to the Softener dispenser or Bleach dispenser see if you can turn the dispenser valves on Service Mode and verify water flow to the reservoirs.
Enter Service Mode (page 14 of the Service manual) by Pressing Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys (simultaneously) for three seconds or until the console beeps.

Now go to page 16 to Service Manual and enter Board Output Test by pressing the Delicates key. This will lock the lid. Now press the
Wrinkle Control Key Pad on the console. The Control Board will send 120VAC to the Fabric Softener dispenser water valve. Did you hear the solenoid hum? If so we will now need to turn on the Cold Water Inlet Valve and see if water flows to the dispenser.

Now press the Spin Only key this will turn on the Cold Water inlet valve after 5 seconds press the Off key. The washer will unlock. Check to see if water did flow to the fabric dispenser reservoir. If you heard the Fabric dispenser valve hum then most likely 120VAC was applied to the solenoid. If water did not flow then the Fabric dispenser valve is stuck closed if you heard it hum.

The Bleach/Fabric dispenser water valve is an assembly and is not repairable you have to replace.

Final technical troubleshooting as a technical owner of the machine would be to take my DVM and verify 120VAC from the Control Board to the Fabric dispenser solenoid.

See page 36 lower left hand corner is the Bleach/Softener dispenser valve.
Here is the Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

The Part Number for the Dispenser Valve is 25001043 you can order from this site or search the internet for best price try appliancezone.com…

You can remove the Fabric Softner to clean see page 33 of the Service Manual…Rich

My Lg washing machine wd-1049 never seems to get anything in the filter, now has a bad smell, washer works fine, hose has no kinks, but it just doesn't seem to collect any 'gunk',

Gunk is from wrappers left in pockets, cheap fabrics throwing off gobs of lint, etc. no gunk is normal for good fabrics and emptied pockets. As to smell: do not use fabric softener use white vinegar in its place, and use powdered detergent instead if liquid detergent. Liquids leave residue and the residue leaves build ups which can mildew. I know that's counterintuitive but that is what happens.

WHY DOESN'T FABRIC SOFTNER DISPENSOR NOT EMPTY ON MAYTAG NEPTUNE FRONT LOADER ?

there is three switched valves for cold and one for hot
the three cold are prewash main wash and softener
at the back of the valves back of the machine
there is a little cage inside the valve header

check its not full of dirt
you can remove them for cleaning with a pair of flat nose pliers
if this isnt the case replace the switched valve related to the softener

Fabric softener dispensor does not completely empty

I discovered that the risne cup dispenser holder will pull off letting you clean out the inside. Why they don't show this in the manual is beyond me. And by the way, what came out was gross and obviously you need to clean this frequently.

Whirlpool Frontloader - the bit where you put the fabric softener in fills up with water and dosent drain. When I put fabric softerner in there it just stays there. Have pulled out the tray and cleaned it...

you can remove the top cover of the washer( 3 screws alongside the top rear of unit) and top will slide back and off, the dispensor is right there with sort of a tear drop shaped cam and lever.Make sure thats in tact. start the washer , and youll see it cycle foward and back if broken youll need to replace the part, dont think the line is blocked (if it was youd get fabric softener overflowing out front), im thinkin the water never gets to that area of dispensor. id start with the lever system

Fabric softener compartment problem.

I have this problem as well.. All washing machines manufactured nowadays are energy effficient, which means that they don't use as much water as the older models. This can result in a build-up of bacteria in the top part of the washing machine, which is clogging up the bit where the water comes through to flush the fabric conditioner into the drum. What I have to do every so often, is to take the top off the washing machine and clean out the layer of black slime that has built up, blocking the holes where the water goes into the washing machine. Another contributory factor is that the usual program used is a 40 degree wash, which is not hot enough to completely flush the machine through. Manufacturers recommend running a 90 degree wash once a month with just washing powder in iit, no clothes. Hope this is some help
