2 guesses.... One is that you vacuumed up a pice of cord or sting that got wound up on the roller (if it's that tyme of machine, and NOW everything's completelt "loced." Cure: look at the brush roller and "unwind" the cord or string.

Two is that you were doing it for a long time and the thermal circuit breaker (which is IN the vacuum cl;eaner itself) over heated and cut out. Usually these are self-resetting, so in a 1/2 hour or 45 minutes - when the thing coold down, it'll start working again.

Note that my first suggestion COULD cause the motor to heat up the and cause the thermal cur out.

Lights on front of unit stopped working and a little while later the whole unit stopped working while in the middle of vacuuming

Take it to a qualified repair facility. Even as there isnt to much to a vacum let the tech check it out. Could be a faulty switch or controls. I dont think its a serviceable by homeowner problem.

I have the Hoover, self propelled vacuum. I have only used the self propel function a few times, but our babysitter used the feature and now the vacuum only works on the highest carpet setting. The middle...

Move the carpet height control switch to a higher position if the vacuum is difficult to push. If the setting is too low for the carpet being cleaned, the brushes press against the floor preventing the vacuum from moving easily.Set to a medium-high height setting then check.Slide the "Self-Propel" button to the "ON" position if the cleaner does not self-propel. -----------
The self-propel feature operates only when the cleaner switch and the self propel button are both ON. ---------- Try this settings and check. This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

The vacuum stopped working while i was using it...did all the troubleshooting tips.. still not working.

Sometimes the vacuum will overheat, if this happens the vacuum will shut down to protect it from damage.

Unplug the vacuum, and let it sit unused 30 minutes.

Please let me know if this has solved your problem.

The beater brush wont spin because the brush roll is always in the off position. Moving the carpet/hard switch doesn't turn it on.

Hello :
Try this please :
Switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.
Or Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.
........................
Try this also please :
Things You'll Need: Phillips head #2 screwdriver Replacement belt for your vacuum model Spray lubricant, such as silicone spray or teflon lube.
1: Unplug the vacuum. Never work on an electrical appliance when it is plugged into an electrical outlet.
2: Turn the vacuum over and locate the plastic or metal plate that covers the rotating brush. Remove this plate.
Note: This plate is typically attached by a small number of Phillips head screws or by levers that turn and lock the plate in place. In either case, removing this plate is a simple task.
3:Identify the vacuum's rotating brush. This brush should have a black rubber belt wrapped around it, and stretched around the metal shaft of an electrical motor mounted somewhere toward the back of the vacuum.
4:Verify that the brush will rotate freely. Examine both ends of the brush to ensure that no threads, string, yarn, etc. have become wrapped around the ends and thus inhibited a free rotation. If there is foreign debris, remove the brush by sliding it up, away from the bottom of the vacuum. Remove the debris
5:Lubricate both ends of the rotating brush with the spray lubricant. Replace the brush into the grooves which hold it in place
Replace the existing belt on the brush assembly, or replace a broken belt with a new vacuum belt.
6:Verify that the brushes now turn freely when back in place and that the motor shaft turns as the brush rotor turns.

Carpet/Floor Switch problem on Hoover WindTunnel Vacuum

Well, you have to deal with it, you have to play with this electrical things if you want to fix this problems.

The good news is, the sources of the problems is the switch already broken. The first things before you do anything is, find this switch on the market first to changes the old ones. Then, remove the power cord from the outlet of course.

After have it, then you must open the old switch, and remove it from the unit by cutting the cables using cutter/ pliers or anything. But remember, you must remember the locations of each cable that been cut, you can use Camera Cellphone to make sure of it if you like.

Then put the cables back together with the new switch, after all done, clean all the mess and try operate it.

Hope it works!!!

Bissell carpet cleaner

Does it do this at other outlets as well? If it does then you may want to have it checked for a short. If just at the one outlet, then it could be the outlet.

Wont turn on

Could be a switch or the power cord. Most likely the motor went bad.
