There is a sensor that goes from one side to the other where the cup sits. Make sure the cup blocks the sensor. If you remove the cup, it will turn off the machine. Safety feature. Saw it on my B30, but not my B31 (I upgraded after fighting with the B30 too often)

Lets do a quick check on how to brew with this unit;

1 turn power on
2 add water
3 place mug under spout (do not use a clear coffee cup because sensors will not detect a cup)
4 push button
5 wait 3 minutes
6 enjoy your coffee hopefully

I know on mine I have to open and close the chamber where I put my coffee. It then blinks ready and I press the size cup I want to brew. Hope this helps! :) And sometimes if there isn't enough water in the reservoir it won't brew so try and putting more than just a cup's worth of water in it :)
