Press Ctrl+Alt+Del when it stops at Blank Desktop.. Go to "New Task", Type "Explorer" at "Run".. if the problem occurs, you may have to repair your windows... follow this step...
Take your WINXP Bootable Installation Disk, Boot it, Repair your system (First Repair Option) using repair option.. Thats all.. Your previous settings will not be disturbed.

If you have another computer available you can make a bootable cd that will run a program to reset your admin password. Several of those programs are discussed here. Good luck to you.
When you install a new harddrive, it has no Operating System on it. Windows XP and Windows Vista, are examples of an Operating System.
Each laptop manufacturer, has their own system of changing a laptop harddrive. Some allow you to press a key or two, to put the laptop in a state where it will save the basic Operating System files, and when you install the new harddrive, it will transfer them over to it.
Some laptop manufacturers do have this option.
You either have to take the harddrive out, install it into an external enclosure for a harddrive, (Uses a USB cable) Then attach the external enclosure via the USB cable, to another computer, and use a 'mirror' imaging program to save the Operating System to that computer.
Then the new harddrive is installed in that external enclosure, and the Operating System is 'mirrored' over to it.
Just information for you, as you cannot do this now with a crashed harddrive. Your option now, is to buy a genuine copy of the Operating System you had on the laptop, and install it. Not what you wanted to hear, huh?
You need to buy whatever version of Windows XP it had, (WinXP Home or WinXP Pro), or Windows Vista. If it was Windows Vista, I suggest getting at least the Windows Vista Home Premium version.
I personally prefer Xp over Vista. Tigerdirect.com, and Newegg.com, have these. Look for Software>Operating Systems.
OR, you can simply put Ubuntu Linux on it for free.
This situation leads me to believe that the CD or DVD drive is faulty,,or the install disc you are using is scratched or dirty. Try cleaning the disc and begin again. Another option is to take the hard drive out and using a 2.5 to 3.5 inch HD adapter ,,plug into a desktop PC as a slave. And copy your WinXp cd onto a partition on your laptop HD. Then using a Win98Se floppy boot disc you can access the winXP and install from there.
i think your system might have got attacked with the virus so just get the updated antivirus installed and get it searched and fixed .... if problem persists just reinstall the operating system ...
If you have access to another computer where you can download and burn
a program to a CD I can help. I have a program to remove all passwords
from Windows XP but it has to be burnt on to a CD and then you boot from
that. Enter the options on screen to remove any passwords, then remove the CD and reboot in to Windows. It does not affect any of your programs or files. you can email me here if you are interested [email protected]
