My office HL5150D printer toner light was on. I put in the toner cartridge from another HL5150D printer in the office but I still had the problem. When I put the original toner cartridge into the second printer, it then had an error of the amber toner light and a red status light. I switched the toner cartridges back but both printer now had the errors. It almost seemed like the "bad" toner cartridge may have affected the printer functionality.

SOURCE: Brother HL-5140, Status light is red and toner

It is very hard to find the reset instructions on the Brother Solutions site.

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold the Go button on the front of the printer, at the same time turn the printer power on.
  3. When the Toner light is on by itself, release the Go button.
  4. Push and hold the Go button again, release the Go button when the Paper light is on by itself.

SOURCE: Brother 5250DN Printer Toner light

Try resetting the toner counter manually;  * Turn off the printer and open the front cover * Press and hold the Go-button down * Turn on the machine while still holding button down, when all three LEDs are lit, release Go-button * Press the Go-button twice, and all three LEDs should be lit again. * Press the Go-button five times (six times if you have the High Yield toner) * Close the front cover and the toner counter should be resetted.

SOURCE: Toner light won't turn off

i just bought this printer last week, and printed out less than maybe 100 pages before I got the toner light. i ALMOST spent money on a new cartridge, but luckily i left my wallet at home. i came home, and checked the google, and beheld the solution to my problem in robdew's post. i also put a piece of tape (electrical) over the scanning hole on the right, shook up the cartridge a bit and i'm printing like a charm again.
if you're in my situation, don't listen to CW Oly; you'd be out $60+.

SOURCE: cannot remove toner cartridge from Brother HL 2170W

Had same problem. The instructions don't tell you that it is not just the cartridge that needs to be pulled out but the frame (black metal thing) inside which it sits. The whole thing pulls out. Of course, you have to press the green tab too.

Problem to put the cartridge tray to printer Canon LBP 5050

  • Canon LBP5050 printer does not have a cartridge tray. Instead, it uses individual toner cartridges for each color (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) that are inserted into specific slots inside the printer.
To replace a toner cartridge in the Canon LBP5050, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure the printer is turned on and the front cover is open.
  2. Locate the toner cartridge that needs to be replaced. Each cartridge is labeled with the corresponding color.
  3. Hold the handle of the cartridge and gently pull it out of the printer.
  4. Remove the new toner cartridge from its packaging and shake it gently to distribute the toner.
  5. Remove the protective cover from the cartridge.
  6. Hold the handle of the new cartridge and insert it into the corresponding slot in the printer.
  7. Push the cartridge all the way in until it clicks into place.
  8. Repeat this process for any additional cartridges that need to be replaced.
Once all of the toner cartridges have been replaced, close the front cover of the printer. The printer should automatically recognize the new cartridges and begin the toner replacement process.

Removed toner strip (dam) prematurely

I don't think it should be any trouble putting it in a plastic bag and then putting it somewhere where it won't be disturbed.

Lexmark e260dn toner light blinking orange

Solution: If you replace the toner cartridge and the 'Toner Low' message remains, the printer may need to be reset.
To do so, power off the printer. Let it sit 20 to 40 seconds, then power it back on. If the 'Toner Low' message does not appear on power-up, try printing again.
If the 'Toner Low' message returns on power-up or when printing, confirm the following:
  • The toner cartridge you just installed is a brand new toner cartridge and not a used one.
  • The toner cartridge is an original Lexmark brand toner cartridge. Cartridges manufactured by a third party may not be compatible with the printer.
If a third-party cartridge is causing this issue, contact the point of purchase for additional support or replacement of the toner cartridge.
  • The toner cartridge has not been refilled or refurbished by a third party. If it has, contact the place where it was refilled to have it replaced.

Still Need Help? Should you confirm all the above and the 'Toner Low' message remains, have the following available when calling Lexmark Technical Support;
  • Printer model(s)
  • Printer serial number
  • Toner/imaging unit/waste toner bottle part number and serial number

Dell 3100n keeps saying "Change Black Toner" even

Before installing a new toner, put a disposable towel over the ink toner exit, and shake your toner lightly back and forth and up and down. Make sure your toner cartridge is in the open position before replacing it in your printer.

If you are using a refillable ink cartridge, make sure you are resetting the cartridge using the method described by the refillable manufacturer.

If this does not answer your question please request more information before voting on my answer. I will try to find more information about your toner cartridge that will help you futher.

Toner indicator light stays on even though it has been changed. There are no loose parts left in form the toner cartridge used before.

I just had the same problem. We have several of these in our office, but switching toner cartridges made no difference. Then I saw this site: http://www.oasis-imaging.com/images/pdf/cart_inst/TN580.pdf

I did steps 14-16, which takes 5-10 minutes. I put the toner back in the printer, turned it on, and it works perfectly now. Give that a try!
