When you say you tried booting from the install disk, what do you mean?
Do you ever see anything but the Dell image?
When you try to start up, press f12 for boot options and choose the diagnostics option and run it.

Hi,

Try restoring back to factory default, to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.

If still the computer is not working then I am sorry to say that the Hard disk gone bad and need replacement.

Blue Screen error

Try to boot the PC without the XP Home CD in the CD drive, and keep pressing the F8 key until it comes up with a boot menu that includes a Safe Mode option.

If you had the XP Pro CD I'd suggest doing a recovery, but XP Home doesn't have that option I don't think.

You may have to try a few times until the boot menu appears. Don't hold the F8 key down - keep pressing it!

When you get into Safe Mode, right click on My Computer and choose Properties. Then go to Hardware tab (i think - not in winXP right now) and choose device manager. Just remove the Video Card from the list altogether, and then restart. Should force it to use generic video card drivers.

then check your video card model and look for the updated driver

Windows XP Pro installed but computer boots to Home Edition

It sure is possible.
I would take it back to them and demand that WINXP Pro is put back in there and it boot correctly
They saved about 50 bucks putting in WINXP Home.

Sounds like a bunch of rookies trying to pull a fast one.
